“Damn, that looks recent. Who bit you like that? Was it some animal?” She rained questions down on me but then gasped. “What a fucking idiot I am, that’s the work of Connor, right. You said he was dying and lost a lot of blood and yet he devoured you the second he woke up?”
“I have to go” I chose not to answer her and simply shoved all the contents in my bag but she grabbed me by
the wrist.
“So you purposely hid this bit of information from me because you didn’t want to face the truth”
I huffed, dragged her to a corner so that we didn’t become live entertainment for the customers.
“I forgot to take the meds, he was drowsy and weak from his treatment and his wolf took over…don’t read too much into this.”
“Yeah sure”
“Now will you stop broadcasting my life…” I had barely quieted her down but her eyes widened in alarm as she pointed at my purse.
“Now what?”
She fished in my purse and picked up something like it was evidence at a crime scene, turning it over in her fingers. “What,” she said slowly, “is this?”
Jane’s eyes went the size of dinner plates. She pointed at the card like it might explode and take the entire café with it.
“Nothing.”
I tried to snatch it back from her but she wouldn’t let me.
“That is not nothing, Sienna. That is a black card. How did you get a black card? From where? Who gave you this? Did you rob a bank on the way here?”
Jane’s entire face lit up with the most unbearable I–told–you–so expression I had ever seen on another human being. She looked like she had just won the lottery and a lifetime supply of ammunition against me at the same time. “He gave you unlimited access to his money. The man is clearly…”
“I don’t want to hear your theories again,” I kept reaching for it and finally snatched it back and stuffed it into my bag.
“Yes, please continue ignoring the man who worships the ground you walk on and continue calling it fake!!”
“Aaron was my crush. If I just jumped ships just because his older brother flirted and had sex with me a few times, what would that make me?”

She blinked at me. “Was? Is Aaron not your crush anymore?”
I opened my mouth to argue but then closed it because it had just been a slip of tongue.
“He is.” I said it with more confidence than I felt.
“He didn’t bleed for you, did he?”

“I don’t want anybody to bleed for me, Jane. That’s the point. Connor would never have to suffer if he just picked someone else instead. Sandra and Aaron wouldn’t stand a chance if Connor was paired with a girl with a stronger wolf, the pair would have annihilated their competition long back. But Connor is suffering because he chose a weakling like me”
“Yeah and he refuses to let you go. And you still don’t see it”
“Because it would look unstable on his part. Just imagine, if he picked another girl right now, it would look like the alpha lacks commitment.”
“You believe that?” Jane folded her hands.
“Yes, I believe the truth. He said it himself even if not in such simple words but I heard it.”
“What do I do with you, my stupid, idiotic friend?” Jane let out an exasperated sigh.
“You advise on stuff I ask about, not give me random fairytale stories because this is real life and I have a crisis at hand to tackle. So goodbye, Jane.”
I pulled out the cash I had saved and dropped it on the table for the bill. “Enjoy your sandwich.”
There was no time to think about whatever she said. In no world would Connor ever fall for a stupid, naive girl like me when the most gorgeous, rich and talented ones ended up being just his one night stand.
Jane watched too many movies so she was forgetting that in reality no handsome and filthy rich guy fell for a simple girl.
“Sienna, you can’t just…”
“Enjoy your fries too,” I ran towards the exit as fast as I could, already halfway to the door. “There’s plenty left. See you later”
“This conversation is not over!” She called after me, loud enough that half the café turned to look again, but I was already out the door and halfway to my car before I let myself think about whatever she was trying to say and instead focussed on the one advice that mattered.
She found a window and screamed at me.
“Tell your totally–fake boyfriend I said hi! And that he’s an absolute idiot if he ever lets you go! And that I want an invitation to that fake wedding!”
I rolled my eyes and the window up simultaneously as a way to tell her to shut up. Though that didn’t stop her raucous laughter from reaching my ears.

“You’re insufferable” I said as I turned the ignition on.

“And you still love me” She stuck her tongue out but mercifully went back to her fries and coke.
I shook my head, gripping the steering wheel and reminding myself of the herculean task of getting Connor to train me. And I had to get to it as soon as possible so that I didn’t fail the task in the first five seconds.
