Chapter 207
Sinna
I folded my hands on my chest. “Oh really? Don’t read too much into stuff. What’s with Jane first and now you too pretending you know me better than myself…”
I mumbled, mostly to myself.
“You’re mumbling again. You do it when you are nervous….or when you have something to hide”
“Hide?” I laughed. “There’s nothing to hide. I was ensuring office decorum is maintained, something you should have done ages ago.”
“Mhmm” He nodded, not sounding even the least convinced.
“What was Alpha Asher saying to you earlier either way?” I tried changing the topic.
“Just him being his usual, charming self. No need to worry about him. What did you need an hour to talk about?”
“I want you to train me”
He repeated like he was giving me a chance to correct myself. “You want me to train you?”
“Yes” I nodded affirmingly.
“For what and why?”
“For the trial of course. I don’t want Johanson to rip me to pieces like he tried with you”
That got his attention and that smug smile of his disappeared as he looked at me intently.
“He is not forcing anything down your throat or pushing you in any stupid trial. I will talk to him later”
“No” I shook my head. “That will only prove that I am a coward, a weakling, a human with no wolf who got scared of the trial and hid behind her partner”
He straightened. “Who cares what anybody thinks?”
| “I do”
“You should not…”
He began but then I walked up to him and placed a finger on his lips.
“Shh, no more arguing about it”
And that was only possible because he leaned backwards at the last possible second and I stretched my arm all the way up to reach his mouth.
I could see the corner of his mouth twitching so I channeled anger ahead because I didn’t want any other emotion fueling me right now.

“Dont you dare smile”
Tooked at me–innocently and raised his hands up in mock surrender.
“Am I smiling? Definitely not. I am trembling due to fear”
I narrowed my eyes, plucking that finger off his lips because the way they brushed softly against the pad of my finger made a delicate shiver ripple through me.
“Good. This is serious” I jabbed that same finger at his chest.
“A totally serious way of asking for guidance, I agree” He nodded solemnly.
I stepped back, straightened my clothes and smoothed down my hair for no reason.
“I have to appear more in control of myself, more intimidating, more strong…more everything…
“Was that your way of showing dominance? By bullying that intern?”
“I wasn’t bullying her, that’s your speciality”
“You could give me a run for my money easily”
I didn’t take that bait and launched into an elaborate explanation of how everything was going downhill because Johanson picked on me, the gullible, naive girl who looked meck and stupid as Connor simply watched me curiously.
“I realized why he wants to break me down. He tried it with you but you stayed strong so now he is after me, and that brainless bimbo Aaron calls his girlfriend is fanning his ego so it’s becoming a headache for
us..”
“Woah, aren’t you in a bright mood today? Calm down a little, my lady”
I whirled around to look at him, hair flying everywhere.
“Dont ask me to calm down. Answer my question. Will you train me?”
He seemed to consider it. “We have no idea what he has planned or how many days we have to prepare for it.”
“Exactly. Which is why we should put everything aside and focus on this as the top priority. What do you think?”
Connor stayed quiet. His eyes moved over my face slowly, like he was weighing every word I had just thrown at him. The silence stretched until my pulse started thudding in my ears.
“I’ll train you,” he said finally.
Relief hit so hard my knees almost unlocked. “Really?”
“But there are certain conditions.”
Of course, there were always conditions with him. Why did I even think he would agree so easily.

I crossed my arms tighter. “Name them.”
65 vouche
pushed off the desk and took one measured step closer. “I have three in total. One, you stop suggesting I replace you with someone who has a wolf. That conversation dies today.”
“Yeah, you can’t look fickle minded hopping between girls in the middle of the succession talks…I know” I butted in impatiently.
He blinked. “Well, that is one way to put it”
“What’s the second and the third?”
He shook his head slightly.
“Two, you will follow every instruction I give you without arguing halfway through because your pride got bruised.”
He paused as if waiting for me to interrupt but I decidedly kept my mouth shut.
“And last but not the least… if you still fail after I train you, you still don’t get to walk away. The arrangement stays permanent. No more temporary escape clauses.”
My mouth opened, closed and opened again.
“But you stated that already in your first condition”
“I know, I added the third just for emphasis”
“That’s not fair.”
“Neither is Johanson targeting you because of me.” His voice stayed calm, almost soft. “Take it or leave it. Speckles.”
I should have argued harder. I should have told him he was being completely ridiculous. Instead my heart was hammering so loudly I was half–convinced he could hear it, and the word permanent kept echoing in my head.
“Fine.” I muttered.
A slow smile curved his lips. “Good girl.”
I hated how easily those two words affected me.
He reached out and tugged lightly on the sleeve of my sweater, pulling me half a step closer until tip my head back to keep meeting his eyes.
