Chapter 208
Syna
My heart slammed against my ribs so hard it hurt. I was too proud to admit he was right, too proud to admit the idea of standing in front of him with nothing muting my scent made my stomach drop and/my skin feel too tight at the same time
“Tim not scared.” I snapped
“Prove it then.” He leaned in just enough that I felt the warmth of his breath against my cheek. “Leave the bottle in the drawer. Or admit you’d rather keep hiding.”
I clenched my jaw. My pulse was racing so fast 1 felt light–headed.
Every instinct screamed at me to keep the meds which not only acted as a barrier but gave me some tiny scrap of control.
But backing down now would mean admitting exactly what he had just accused me of.
“Fine,” I bit out. “No blockers during training. Happy?”
“Ecstatic.”
The word was dry, but his eyes had gone darker.
“Do you want to stage any other protests, maybe bully anyone before I go back to work, or are we done negotiating?”
I had a dozen things to argue about, most of them involved the way my skin was tingling where his breath had touched it and the fact that my heart still hadn’t slowed down.
None of them were safe to say out loud.
“We’re done.” I said, and hated how unsteady it sounded.
He stayed there a second longer, close enough that I could see the faint gold still lingering at the edges of his irises, then pushed away from the wall.
“Be in the gym at nine o’clock. Don’t make me come looking for you.”
He turned back to his desk like the entire charged conversation hadn’t just happened, but I saw the w hand flexed once against the wood before he picked up a file.
“Is my back so interesting to you? I thought my face did all the proverbial robbing of breath”
He flipped a page without looking back and I resisted the urge to talk back.
The bandage peeked from under his collar when he moved and I decided to grant him some mercy because for someone injured and returned from death’s door he did a lot of talking and smirking.
1 spun around on my heels, grabbing my purse. “Bye”

He didn’t reply and I immediately walked out of the office, feeling stupid for feeling sorry for him earlier.
et whatever his father had said to him didn’t ruffle him a bit or he just shut it down easily.
And I wondered how could I do that. I was a chronic overthinker and didn’t have a lot of confidence.
Blaming myself and my fate for everything, I hurried down the stairs to find Maria.
“That looks good on you” She was saying to someone and I turned my eyes in the direction she was looking in to spot the intern from earlier.
Maria had put her in full work clothes that fit her loosely yet not big enough to look oversized on her. She was covered from head to toe.
And her hair was tied in a bun too while her extra makeup had been washed off to replace with minimal makeup.
“Ahh, you arrived just in time. Is this decent enough according to you, my Luna?”
Maria never called me that so hearing it from her felt weird but I assessed the intern and nodded.
“Sure”
The intern just gave both of us a quick bow and ran up the stairs, leaving Maria smiling as she looked from her to me.
“What?”
She gave me a knowing look. “Staking claim on what is ours is a good habit”
I shrugged. “Following rules is. Either way, I need your help”
I quickly explained what I wanted and she nodded immediately.
“Sure Sienna. Please follow me”
She led me to yet one of the several dozen rooms, this one adjacent to the one where she had shown me a collection of dresses and gowns big enough to fill a mall.
She fished for a key and opened the door.
1
“In here”
I followed her and gawked as she switched on the lights.
This room was filled with all the sports gear I could imagine from helmets, trekking shoes to swimsuits skates and what not.
I didn’t even know half the things or the sports they were related to.
“Who is into sports here?” I squeaked as I stepped closer and she opened a few doors to start picking our training clothes.
“Nobody in particular. But we are supposed to keep everything ready in case someone wants to

ncludes their partners, the alpha and the luna as well and guests, if needed.”
“I see”
She pulled out a few boxes and started segregating and placing everything neatly in them.
“Uh, I don’t think I would need that many”
She continued folding without looking up. “These are yours anyway.”
“All of them?” I stepped closer to see the boxes almost half full and more of it still hanging from the
shelves.
“Yes, I didn’t even start on the shoes yet”
I looked at the sports bra, the tees, the skinny fit pants and wondered if I had made a mistake by asking him to train me.
“When exactly did he get these?” I asked, as she pulled another box to fill the shoes.
“Around the alpha and luna’s anniversary party I believe or even before that” She answered after giving it some thought.
Getting me a few dresses that could still be altered and modified was one thing, getting a whole sports shop for me when he didn’t even know my size was another.
She called for some servants who carried the boxes to my room and I sighed wondering about the trial. Maria accompanied me and helped me add them to the massive wardrobe that still had ample space left.
I just sat there, feeling the weight of the trial on my shoulders and sagged a little.
Maria noticed my expression and came to sit beside me.
“Are you okay? You look worried”
I fidgeted with my fingers.
“Yeah, just worried about what Elder Johanson has in store for me. I don’t want to end up looking like a fool in front of the entire pack.”
She gave my shoulder a gentle squeeze.
“You won’t. Not when Connor is training you”
“You think so?”
