“Not all of us grew up with private trainers and alpha expectations because you are supposed to inherit the crown from your father, nor was I surrounded with people who gave a damn whether I could hold our own body weight, Connor.”
“Exactly”
That single word was enough to further fan the flames of my anger.
“What the hell is your problem?” My voice rose a little as well.
Yes, we were fighting, screaming at each other just like old times.
Deja vu!
His jaw flexed so hard I heard it. “Just stop pretending you know everything and let me do the job you begged me to do.”
I folded my hands on my chest. “I asked, requested, I didn’t beg.”
“Looked a lot like it”
“Yeah? Why don’t you add that to the list of mistakes I’ve made today?”
“That will be wasted effort”
Boy did he know how to thoroughly annoy someone.
I spun on my heel, done with the entire humiliating conversation, with the training…with everything. “You don’t own me.”
His hand shot out faster than I could track, caught my wrist, and yanked me back so hard I stumbled.
The next second my back hit the wall with a soft thud and his body followed, caging me in completely.
Both of my wrists were pinned above my head in one of his larger hands before I could even process the
movement.
The air left my lungs in a soft, startled rush.
He was close, far too close for my anger to continue being the top emotion affecting him
Without the meds, the heat of him soaked through my hoodie and the thin tee underneat even there.
“Let go!”

“Free yourself”
His eyes
had gone darker, gold flickering at the edges the way they did when his control slipped.

And then I struggled hard against him, like a butterfly pinned to the wall, thrashing against that solid wall of muscle that didn’t move, budge or blink.
I grew all sweaty, hot and bothered in one clusterfuck of emotions, I refused to acknowledge.
I shook my head to push the hair away from my eyes to the best of my ability.
“Wanna keep failing spectacularly or do you accept you need to work on yourself a lot?”
I would have if he wasn’t staring down at me looking so damn pleased with himself and not in a way that gave me butterflies but the annoying kind.
“Why don’t you just give up on me if I am such a headache to you? Not like I didn’t give you the option already”
I huffed and for one dangerous second his gaze dropped to my mouth and stayed there.
My heart slammed against my ribs so hard I was certain he could feel it and for a wild second, I thought he would truly consider it, truly break this fake arrangement and realize he didn’t want to waste time on me and find another girl with a strong wolf.
Every nerve ending in my body had decided this was an excellent time to wake up and scream in protest at that thought.
Fuck my wolf who put me in such a contradictory position!
“You will do as I say without arguing,” he said instead, completely choosing to not reply to my very practical question.
And despite that anger simmering under my skin, his voice was low and rough enough to scrape over the surface like it was scratching an itch, leaving me wanting more.
“Or I could just not put any effort, let you lose your alpha title and pay the price”
“And do what? Go running to my little brother?”
I couldn’t believe he went there!
I tilted my chin up, refusing to look away even though every instinct was suddenly loud and conflict
“Maybe it was a mistake asking you to train me. You’re the one who stands to lose the most if I fail. So if I were you, I’d be a lot more respectful about it.”
His eyes narrowed. The hand not pinning my wrists came up and gripped my jaw-not hard enough to hurt, just firm enough to keep me exactly where he wanted me.
His thumb brushed once, almost absently, along the edge of my jawline, and the tiny contact sent a

“It would take me less than five seconds to remind you that I can smell and sense everything your mouth refuses to accept right now”
If looks could kill, Connor would be dead by now.
“Shut up!”
“You want my respect?” His voice dropped even lower. “Earn it. Follow my instructions. Stop lying. Stop performing. And stop looking at me like that when I’m trying to be angry with you.”
“Trying? Is that what you are doing?”
The moment stretched between us as we both stared at each other, and part of me, despite the asshole he was being right now, wanted to shake him hard and plant my lips on his.
I could feel the rise and fall of his chest against mine. I could hear him grunt and the way the nerves in his arms popped.
My scent, no doubt, was affecting him.
