Chapter 213
Sienna
“I was a pathetic, timid girl who didn’t have the guts to admit her crush to her best friend and had to take the help of his annoying half-brother who made my life hell just to keep my freedom and a shot at getting my crush to notice me.”
I was panting now, slightly breathless.
“But at least I didn’t sleep my way through half the city just because I look good and think everybody is beneath me. I don’t hide my past or my emotions or the fact that sometimes I might actually need help- because I’m not enough of a coward to pretend I don’t. And if you ever wanted someone, if you ever crushed hard on someone yet never had the courage to admit your feelings for them, you would know how fucking miserable it makes you feel…”
Connor’s gaze hardened and I saw him coil his fingers into fists.
“…but how would you know that? For that, you had to have someone you loved in secret, someone you pined over for years while they went about their lives like you were just a background character. You need to have a heart, a working, functioning one that stops beating when she is too near, an irresistible urge to pull her close when you were having a bad day, feel a stabbing pain of jealousy when she so much as mentions someone else. I’ve been pretending that too yet I don’t hear you complain about that because it suits you and your stupid goal of becoming an alpha. But you know what…”
I walked towards him, jabbing a finger in his chest.
“…without having a true partner by your side who loves you, you might as well sit on an empty throne. And you wouldn’t accept that you love nobody but yourself would you??”
I pushed my hair aside, allowing myself some time to breathe, my voice becoming raspy and breathy by the end of my rather long outburst.
I waited and waited for Connor to say something but his mouth stayed decidedly shut.
The silence that followed was worse than any shouting could have been.
Something flickered across his face that was too fast to name properly, but sharp enough that I knew the words had landed exactly where I had aimed them.
He didn’t argue. He didn’t fire anything back either. He simply looked at me for one more endless second, then turned and walked out of the gym without another word. The door clicked shut behind him leaving me standing alone in that big gym.
I stayed where I was, back still pressed to the wall, wrists still warm from his hands, heart still r
run the entire estate perimeter already.
And somehow, I felt that single look he gave me said a lot more than anything I had said.
Fuck, what I had just done?

The gym door clicked shut behind him and the silence Udl
in a long time.
Even blaming it on my wolf or the meds wouldn’t work anymore because it had all been me.
But I would be lying if I didn’t try really hard to keep quiet and stay calm but he kept egging and poking me, reminding me of the exact scenarios in childhood where he would try to downplay every little effort of mine.
I reacted out on autopilot but he just walked away.
I stayed against the wall long after his footsteps faded, wrists still warm from where he had pinned them, heart still slamming like it wanted out. The things I had said kept replaying on an unhelpful loop.
I had gone too far. But then why did he look at me like that?
Did he have someone in his life he loved? Was Connor capable of something as selfless as love? Maybe he had met someone in the other city, she broke her heart and thats why he came back here.
That could be a plausible explanation.
The way his face had changed before he walked out told me everything I needed to know.
Eventually I peeled myself off the wall and walked back to our room on legs that didn’t feel entirely steady.
The corridor seemed longer than usual. When I pushed the door open the space was empty. His side of the bed was still perfectly made. There was no discarded shirt and no faint trail of his cologne beyond the obvious fact that his room felt so completely empty and hollow without him.
He hadn’t come back.
I paced through the room restlessly as the night grew darker wondering what was I supposed to say when he finally showed up?
‘Sorry I called you a man-whore and a coward after you agreed to help me?’
It sounded even worse out loud than it did in my head. I tried different versions anyway, muttering to the empty room like a complete idiot.
“I’m sorry. I was angry and embarrassed and I said things I didn’t mean.”
Nah, he would just stare at me.
“I shouldn’t have brought up your… history or memories of your ex. That was low.”
That too felt wrong.
I kept practising until the words started blurring together and my throat felt scratchy.
The clock on the nightstand crawled past midnight, then one, then two but he still hadn’t appeared.

I didn’t dare call or text him fearing he would leave me on read or worse, had already blocked me.
I didn’t even want to call Jane because she would bite my head off.
Exhaustion finally won. I climbed onto my side of the bed still wearing the hoodie and training pants, set an alarm for an ungodly hour to wake up early, hoping and praying he would be there to train me in the morning and fell asleep with regret sitting heavy on my tongue.
It seemed like I had barely closed my eyes when the alarm shrieked and I slapped it into silence, already knowing the other side of the bed would be empty.
Yet, I looked over to see that the sheets on his side were cold and untouched.
Fresh worry cut through the leftover sleep. I dragged myself into the bathroom, washed my face with cold water, brushed my teeth, and shoved my hair into a knot that looked like it had lost a fight.
I didn’t bother changing. Last night’s clothes would have to survive another round of humiliation.
With that thought I stepped outside to see the estate still wrapped in that soft pre-dawn grey. Stifling a yawn with my hand, I looked around to catch Connor already jogging or doing some exercise in the open air.
Yet again, there was no sign of him.
This time I didn’t invent anything, looked through videos of warm up exercises and then started jogging the perimeter path with all the enthusiasm of someone walking to their own execution.
My phone stayed silent in my pockets. There was no call or message from him. Where could he be?
