Chapter 232
Sienna
Then soon the entire squad was chanting his name loudly, all except me.
touchers
I stood there with my mouth clamped shut, my body absolutely refusing to play along and add my own
voice to the chant.
I began praying with everything left in me that he’d hold firm, and that he’d simply stay in his corner with Lily and let this entire nightmare pass me by unnoticed.
To my extreme disappointment, he gave in to the demands.
Lily quickly read the room and patted on his shoulder as if she had been encouraging him all along.
With a faintly amused expression, Connor turned to Lily to say something that made her chuckle delightedly, her eyes shining brighter than the lights above.
Connor stood up gracefully, placed the tall glass of champagne in his hand on the table and nodded to Bob, mouthing “Okay, fine. I am coming”
The girls let out a whooping cheer and clapped excitedly as Connor began crossing the room.
A spotlight followed him as he made his way through the crowded seating arrangement, having to stop every few seconds when a hand shot out to greet him or someone bowed to him.
Even before he could sit down, Bob and a server materialized instantly at his elbow, presenting a tray of elegant finger food with a small, formal bow.
Bob folded his hands and bowed, “Compliments of the house, Alpha.”
Bob looked up and snapped his fingers as another server appeared on Connor’s other side, refilling a glass that hadn’t even come close to needing it.
“If you need anything else, please, just say the word.”
Connor gave him a polite nod and Bob looked up at the stage, at Blondie who met his eye and some silent communication passed between them that I believed was him telling her to give it her best shot.
Blondie nodded as Bob hurried back to the stage’s dark corner and Bob let out a relieved breath and gave us all a big thumbs up, his eyes practically glowing with satisfaction.
“Enjoy, Alpha!” He turned toward us, spreading his arms wide once more. “Ladies, do entertain our honored guest properly.”
He gave a small, theatrical bow and dipped off the stage entirely, leaving all of us alone under the lights with an audience that was now completely paying attention.
Connor had been seated in the dark and not wanting any of the attention but now not just the dancers but all the other guests were eyeing him.
The music shifted almost instantly once he settled in.
Slower, and heavier tune that was dripping with a sultry
I was barely a few feet away from Connor and that fear vibrated up through the floorboards and straight into the soles of my feet, my heart thudding wildly.
The harsh white lights dimmed with it, the whole stage bathing suddenly in low, amber light instead.
The other girls transformed instantly as well seeing that Connor had a front row to their performance
Where a moment ago they’d been swaying with mild, distracted effort, every single one of them snapped into full, focused performance the second Connor leaned back.
I gulped nervously as all around me the girls started rolling their hips rolling, hands trailing slowly along their own collarbones.
All of their eyes were locked meaningfully on the front row like a switch had been flipped somewhere deep inside each of them.
Even the dark-haired girl who’d already collected her scattered dollar bills climbed back onto the stage to rejoin the formation, apparently unwilling to miss whatever came next.
And then as if sensing competition and wanting to cut off everybody else, Blondie moved to the very front of the stage.
She dropped low on the stage deliberately and rose slowly, tossing her hair back with a coy smile.
Her fingers found the thin strap at her shoulder and dragged it down very slowly, holding Connor’s gaze the entire time like a challenge she fully intended to win.
My heart dropped somewhere near my stomach as I watched her, half frozen in genuine fear of what came next, half consumed by a hot, ugly jealousy I refused to examine too closely.
My whole body went rigid while everyone else around me moved with an ease I couldn’t begin to fake, my palms suddenly slick with sweat and clammy.
I adjusted my mask, ensuring it stayed secured on my head as I tried to read Connor’s expressions.
I wasn’t sure if he was amused or bored.
The beat dropped lower a second later and Blondie jumped down the stage.
She did a cartwheel and landed on the floor directly in front of him and the crowd gasped collectively, some appreciative, some simply startled.
Oh no!
I forced my body to keep moving even as I saw her start dancing seductively right in front of Connor’s seat, close enough to touch him.
He simply swirled his drink and took a sip, not encouraging her but not shutting her out either.
