I tried stepping away but my feet were suddenly not co–operating and I was having trouble standing straight.
I blinked furiously, shaking my head.
In front of me, the drunk, arrogant men continued to crack jokes and bid on me.
“Anyone wants to go above two hundred?” Bob asked.
“Three!” shouted another, from the couch.
“Five,” said the bald one calmly.
“That’s the spirit gentlemen. Keep going!”
Meanwhile, my head was starting to spin a little and I was getting a bit dizzy.
“Stand straight will you?”
Bob reached for me, stopping me from face planting into the nearest wall.
“I…I am not feeling well” I mumbled.
“You are fine, just lean on me if you want”
Even in my slightly dizzy state, I didn’t want to be anywhere near him.
But why was I feeling like this all of a sudden? I blinked again and tried straining my eyes that were drooping a little.
The bright lights shining on my face seemed harsher than the afternoon sun and I couldn’t look ahead of who was seated where.
“You….you mixed something in my drink” I said more as a statement than as a question.
“Just a teeny tiny drop to keep you from scurrying away like a mouse, darling”
I glared at him or tried to. This sly bastard had drugged me while Blondie might also have drugged Connor.
Now that just worsened my problem.
“How…dare you?” 1 shouted but he only took that as an opportunity to make a show of me further.
“Ooh, kitty got claws. She hates being lowballed. Look how she is hissing at me!!”
Bob placed a hand on his chest like he was genuinely afraid of me and gasped, making the bidders laugh out
loud.

They were all making fun of me, toying with me.

There were more sounds of cheers, laughter and glasses clinking mixed with that of music and more murmuring that was all blending together in my head.
Someone pounded the table like this was an auction at a county fair. Past the lights I could see men leaning forward, looking hungry and amused.
My heart was slamming so hard I could hear it in my ears.
Had Connor left already?
I searched the front rows, straining past the blinding lights.
There he was, looking no more than a dark shape at the center table to me, with three girls crowded around. him.
One was draped over the back of his chair while the other leaned on the table in front of him.
Blondie was pressed to his side and was now holding a drink in her hand, making him sip it.
Fuck, now she had definitely drugged him too.
His head was turned toward them and he had no idea what was happening to me and himself.
“Six hundred!”
“Seven!”
Bob kept asking them all to bid feverishly, turning this into a bidding war until finally someone shoulted out
loud.
“A thousand.”
That made everybody stop talking for a minute. That was a whole lot of money.
The bald man’s voice went flat, and he pushed the couch back and stood all the way up and looked back at the others.
“None of you rascals can afford to pay more so don’t you even dare make me spend a penny more”
Laughter erupted upon that line as the one beside him mumbled. “Okay fine you win. But can I get a taste too?”
I let out a horrified squeal.
The bald man rubbed his hands together, his mouth hanging half open as his tongue came out to lick his lower lip.
I made a gagging sound.

“Not before I am done with her and only after I have gotten my money‘ worth”
He took a step forward and I took a step back.
“But first, I want a closer look.”
He then looked at Bob. “Bring her here. I can’t see her clearly from such a distance”

My heel caught the edge of a lighting cable and I nearly went down. Bob planted himself between us like a shield though I didn’t think my safety was on his mind.
“Tsk, tsk” Bob clicked his tongue, holding out his hand to stop the bald man.
“No touching.” Bob declared, shaking his head. “Not until the bidding closes, my friend. House rules.”
The man’s grin twisted. He looked at Bob, then at me. His eyes crawled from my face to my feet and back up again like I was a piece of juicy meat in a window. The look that he gave me made me want to climb out of my own skin.
He reached into his jacket, pulled out a thick roll of bills bound in a rubber band, and threw it straight at Bob’s face.
It hit him square in the nose and dropped to the floor.
Bob blinked, looked down at the money and his smile got wider with pure delight..
“That’s pocket money for you. For bringing in a fresh face. Next time, I want to see more fresh faces, young ones preferably”
His words made me sick to the stomach but Bob had the opposite reaction.
“Well, now, that’s generous,” he replied with a grin, hastily bending to pick it up. “But I think our little star is worth a bit more, don’t you?”
The man let out a low and ugly laugh that rumbled through his stomach.
“You greedy little bastard,” the fat man laughed again, slapping Bob on the shoulder. He tried not to wince as the bald man leaned forward to get a better look at me.
I secured my mask on my face tightly.
“Tell her to take that mask off. I ain’t paying more without seeing her face”
