I looked up at him, my heart aching to get close to him, to feel that warmth radiating off his body as he would pull me in an embrace….atleast in my imagination.

Because the real life Connor standing in front of me was in no mood of doing that.

“I…don’t need your permission to go to a club”

He took a step forward, eyes glowering and gritted his teeth.

“This looks like a regular club to you?”

I gulped. “The hotel looked okay…from outside”

He stabbed a finger in the air viciously. “This is a fucking strip club and they fucking sell and buy women for money”

I lowered my head. “I…kinda…noticed that”

That line angered him instead of calming him down.

“And yet the very intelligent, top of the class, straight A scoring girl couldn’t run away to save her life”

I tugged nervously at the hem of my dress…if I could even call it that.

Connor’s breathing was ragged and fuck he was so damn angry I didn’t think he would try to listen to me even if I explained anything.

“I asked you to rest, to practice what I taught you but no, genius madam Sienna decided to follow me across the city in a taxi.”

“But…”

“Not just that, she wore an awfully short pink dress, somehow entered on the stage wearing that and then had a bidding war for herself.”

“I didn’t ask anyone to bid on me, okay?”

His gaze dragged down my body, the dress, my scraped palms, my one bare foot.

“Do you realize what would have happened if I’d just walked out before you even got on the stage? If that god awful and nauseating perfume you thought was a fucking invisibility cloak for you to hide in plain sight when your body kept sending me panic signals…”

He didn’t finish the sentence and I looked up at him in surprise.

I had taken the meds. Had they stopped working because I was in a heightened state of emotional distress?

It made no sense.

“Do you?” his voice rose so high, my voice sounded low and like that of a mewling kitten to my own ears.

I wanted to ask why he took so long to come find me if he knew I had been following him all this time but his tone told me he wouldn’t really like being asked that right now.

So, I came up with some lame defense.

“I kicked him!”

“After I had already restrained him.”

“You are forgetting I am not an alpha or a fighter”

He looked at me, real hard and muttered. “Could you for the love of the moon goddess, repeat that to yourself, one word at a time?”

I had opened my mouth to argue but then snapped it shut.

He saw that and continued.

“Yes, you are no alpha, no fighter, yet you somehow got a genius idea of walking into an unknown place, filled with unknown people in the dead of the night, almost getting kidnapped, hurt, dead or all of the three because you just can’t follow a simple order, can you?”

His voice rose with each spoken word and I tried to physically shrink into a small bubble just to escape his

temper.

“It worked because he was drunk and restrained. A sober man would have broken your ankle.”

“I didn’t…plan any of this”

He shoved a groaning attacker off his boot. “And whose fault is that?”

I stared at him. The words landed somewhere low in my stomach.

“You…you just wont talk to me when I tried to…then just left me after that very cold and stupid training… and…and then…”

He took a step forward. “And then what?”

Up close his eyes were dancing with anger, the heat rolling off his body coupled with his scent was so damn enticing.

I wanted to grab him by the shirt, shake him hard and slam him onto the wall before kissing the everloving shit out of him.

Maybe that would knock some sense into him

“Can you save your lecture for later? Once we are home?”

Connor’s eyes narrowed but he was now staring past me, somewhere over my shoulder and behind me.

Quiet

“No, you don’t get to treat me like that…you…”

“I said quiet”

He repeated but I didn’t want to and then he was moving at the speed of lightning towards me. One second he was standing far from me, glaring at me and the next he had crossed the distance and grabbed me by the arms, pushing me backward until my back hit the wall.

My eyes widened in alarm as he stepped closer, his body almost slamming into mine.

One of his hands left my shoulder to glide up and he placed his index finger on my lips.

I gasped at the sudden contact, my heart lurching forward.

His eyes looked unreadable yet stormy, some emotion coursing through them that I was unable to decipher because I was too engrossed in realizing just where all our bodies touched.

It was freaking everywhere.

He had pushed me into a dark corner, hidden behind the debris of glass and broken wooden tables and chairs.

But why?

Just beyond the wall we were hiding at, I heard the sound of hurried footsteps. A second later someone seemed to pull out his phone and dial a number.

The line rang for a few seconds in which Connor warned me not to move or make a sound at all.
