I began but his grip on me tightened as he pushed me away froin the staircase and into the passageway inside the hotel.
“Let me go!”
I struggled hard in his arms. “You’ve caused enough chaos for a night.”
“You asked me to go home” I spat angrily, “so let me”
His eyes narrowed and he pulled out a key from his pocket, dangling it in front of my eyes.
“Take this”
I shook my head. “I’ll take a taxi instead”
But he let his fingers glide down my other shoulder, lifted my arm and forced my palm open.
“Go sit in my car in the parking and don’t move a muscle until I am back”
I tried to throw away the keys, anger and hurt making me wanting to step away from him even if my stupid body still craved for scraps of affection from him which I was never getting.
Not if he was going to be so cruel and bitter when I had good intentions at heart.
“No, I don’t” I struggled again, but he shook me hard, making my hair fly all around.
“Fucking look at yourself. Are you sure you can walk outside the hotel looking like this?”
His cold words made me stop resisting him and I looked down at myself. The pieces of glittery fabric meant to strip down at every few dance moves were torn at places, and I was sure my make up was a mess.
The only change of dress I had was that stupid pink dress I had borrowed from Jane who must be currently snoring in her bed.
“I…”
I wasn’t sure what store would be open at this ungodly hour to lend me a decent dress. I tried to pull down the leotard that had also gotten torn at places.
Connor let out a breath, then wordlessly took a step back.
Then slowly, very slowly, he reached for the buttons of his coat and began unbuttoning them one by one.
I tried not to look at the dried blood streaking his chest and arms, tried not to wonder if it was his or his attackers, tried not to remind him of getting himself cleaned and checked because he would hurl another insult at me.

I saw him wince a little as he struggled to take the coat off his left arm and stopped myself from offering to help immediately.
Daan my wolf for not having even an ounce of self respect when it came to this man!
Connor straightened, pulled his coat away and then slowly approached me to place it on my shoulders.
That simple act was so tender, so soft, so very against his expression and words that were harsh and cruel
to me.
“Wear this and go sit in the car. Don’t make me look for you in the dead of the night again/
“I wasn’t…”
“Can you do that?” He asked, staring into my eyes as I clutched his coat, pulling it closer. “For me?”
I looked up at him, at the tired face, the disappointed look and his expressions and slowly nodded.
“Okay”
“I’ll give my statement to the police and then we can drive home in half an hour”
His voice had grown less sharp, less edgy now but that didn’t mean he was still being nice to me.
I held the keys to his car tightly in my fingers and slowly turned around to wait for him in the parking lot just like he had suggested.
I crossed the passageway and reached the end still feeling his eyes on my back and stopped at the crossroad where it turned to the left.
I took a glance at him and saw him standing there with his shoulders stooping down.
He could have just told me where he was going tonight and we wouldn’t be fighting like this but here we
were anyway.
I sighed and headed towards the parking lot as he disappeared from my view.
I walked in on yellow tapes being attached everywhere and police surveying the damage, cameramen taking photos and policemen taking down statements of terrified servers.
One of the policemen looked up at me, took in my appearance and was about to ask me to step aside for questioning when another one simply tapped on his colleague’s shoulder and shook his head.
I walked past them wordlessly, found my purse backstage and then walked towards the lift. I left behind the chaos, the shouting voices as the lift opened up and swallowed me.
For a while it was just me and my thoughts, the scene of Connor ramming the jagged bottle in Marco’s crotch followed by Connor blaming me for ruining his mission.
I stepped out of the elevator when the doors opened, and pressed on the key fob while walking around. The car blared to life somewhere in the corner, hazard lights blinking fast and its horn guiding me to the
car.
I made my way towards it, opened the car door and got in it. My body felt so sore and my feet like they
