Chapter 25
Sienna
I cried out in surprise, grabbing onto whatever I could lay my hands on but I still slammed into Connor, m hands grabbing at his arm to steady myself.
The car careened to the side, and would have bumped into the massive tree trunk if it hadn’t stopped mere inches from the tree.
My eyes had widened and my heart was beating frantically.
I slowly looked up, blinking rapidly and asked.
“Wh–what happened?”
Connor didn’t say a word but I heard the speeding noise of the car that had long swept past us at the speed of the rocket.
For a second, everything seemed to move in slow motion as I felt Connor’s hot breath on my skin.
Connor’s eyes locked on mine, dark and intense, for merely a second before he looked back at the road, and the moment shattered.
I slowly pulled away, settling back into my seat, my heart still trying to escape my chest.
Connor guided the car back into the proper lane, his expression unreadable.
“Sorry, I bumped into you” I mumbled. “That car came out of nowhere.”
He didn’t respond and I saw the way his face was devoid of that annoying smirk.
His face was rigid and it didn’t look like he was in the mood to talk. Maybe, I should save the conversation for when we are home and let him focus on the road for now.
So I stared out the window, watching the familiar streets of our neighborhood pass by, and tried to calm my racing pulse.
But now there was a question nagging at me. One I hadn’t really thought about until now and I wasn’t even sure I wanted the answer to.
I glanced at Connor, hesitation making my voice quiet.
“Connor?”
“Yeah.”
Oh thank the goddess he was speaking again
“Did something happen?”

His brow furrowed. “We almost died two minutes ago.”
“I meant last night. Did something… happen?”
He was quiet for a moment. “You mean the part where you went to a club with a creep who tried to assault you? Yeah, that happened.”
“No,” I said, heat rising to my cheeks. “I mean–did we–did something happen? Between us?”
“You passed out in my car,” he said flatly. “I brought you back to my place because I didn’t wanna drive to you home and back to mine.”
“But after that,” I pressed. “Did anything…”
“I put you to bed,” he said. “You were drunk.”
I twisted my hands in the oversized hoodie. “Right. But did I…did I do anything? Say anything?”
Connor’s lips twitched. “You told me I smelled good.”
Oh Goddess! “What else?” I asked, mortification flooding through me.
“You asked me to stay.” I buried my face in my hands. “Oh no!”
“And you mumbled Aaron’s name before you fell asleep.”
For a second I almost wished the car had slammed into me so that I wouldn’t have to be humiliated again right here in the passenger seat of Connor’s expensive car.
“So,” I said, my voice muffled by my hands. “Did we….I mean…”
I was struggling to form the right words.
“If you’re asking if we had sex, Speckles, you can just say it.”
I lowered my hands, forcing myself to look at him. “Did we?”
“No,” he said simply.
I blinked. “We didn’t?”
“No.”
“Even though I asked you to stay?”
His jaw clenched. “What do you mean by that?”
I frowned, confused by the sudden edge in his voice. I just I mean, I was drunk, and you’re you, and I thought…
“You thought what?” he cut me off, his voice sharp now “That I’m like the creep you met at the club? That I’d

take advantage of someone who’s too drunk to consent?”
“No!” I said quickly. “That’s not what I…”
“What do you take me for?”
Shit, his voice was growing really pissed.
“I am sorry, I shouldn’t have phrased it like that. I was just…”
“Complete that line” He said, now looking me in the eyes. “Connor, I…”
“I want to hear it. Say what you were going to.”
“I…just thought you wouldn’t walk away.”
That was really putting it mildly.
“So you mean you think I’m the kind of person who would get you drunk just to sleep with you.” He continued, his hands tightening on the steering wheel.
“That’s not what I meant,” I protested. “It’s just…your reputation…”
“My reputation?” he repeated flatly.
“I mean you are known to be a playboy and never sleep with the same girl again.”
He let out a humorless chuckle. “And who told you that? Let me guess, Aaron?”
I shook my head, dragging my hands down my face.
“No, but the way girls were all over you and you sent that girl crying when we first met after all these years.”
I said, and even as the words left my mouth, I knew they were a mistake. “I just assured…”
The car swerved suddenly, cutting across a lane.
I grabbed the door handle, my body slamming against the window as Corinor yanked the wheel
“Connor, what the hell!”
He pulled the car to the side of the road and stopped abruptly, the engine still running
“You are right. I sleep for fun, and I am so fucking horny all the time that drug girls to force them into y bed. I must have slept with the entire city by now”
I tried to inject humor because my serious words weren’t working
“Except me”
