The quarterly projections weren’t going to fix themselves, which was the only reason I was still in the office at four in the afternoon when I could have been doing anything else..
The stack of reports on my desk might as well have been written in ancient runes for all the sense they were making.
The intern I kept forgetting the name of was still terrified of the reporting software but she had flagged something in the eastern territory numbers that didn’t reconcile with the figures Ashford Holdings had filed in March.
That was a mistake I shouldn’t have missed but I had because damn, ever since returning to this city my mind was elsewhere.
Concentrating on simple tasks was getting difficult because I kept glancing at my phone every few seconds, kept thinking about the freckled girl with specs.
Every kiss that we shared, every taste of hers only made me more hungry, more desperate. Everytime I thought of her, my cock got painfully hard.
1 had barely managed to focus on the phone conversation I was having with a partner alpha about a deal we had spoken about back at the party when I noticed her staring at me through the glass and then pretending she had just randomly wandered over to the topmost floor where the office sat.
Alpha Asher had left for a long week of celebration, leaving me to deal with all the important stuff. And Aaron…well he was trying very hard to look busy and demanded Alpha Asher give him a separate project to work on so that he could show his skills.
Typical Aaron. He always got high with competing with me even after years of being defeated every single time.
“Alpha, do you think I should also show the projected revenue for the quarter? But then the graph will get too complicated.”
She mumbled.
“Nah, no need, those numbers won’t make a difference.” I said to her while still having my phone conversation.
But her face fell and she looked like I had just slapped her.
I sighed. Interns and their thirst to prove themselves was a quality I liked but not when I was already juggling a lot of things.
When she kept pouting at the screen, I walked back to her, grabbed the mouse and quickly added the figures to show her the before vs after comparison.
“See? Not much of a difference. But you caught a very good mistake that slipped from my eyes. So good job.”

I said, rolling up a paper and gently bopping her.
She smiled immediately, happy that I patted her back.

I had just pulled my hand away from the mouse when I suddenly spotted her, hiding behind a pillar.
Sienna immediately turned around and ran but she wasn’t fast enough to outpace me. And just like that she was in front of me again, staring at me with that look which made me want to kiss the everloving fuck out of her.
She mumbled about going somewhere with the chick Aaron was dating and I could see she was nervous even though she didn’t openly admit it.
So I simply asked her to call me even though she stubbornly denied needing my help.
It was an exercise in patience to step away from her, and let her walk downstairs and away from me, to wrench myself away from her soft, supple body and go back to stare at spreadsheets and reports.
Numbers blurred together while my mind kept drifting back to all the kisses I had shared with her, and the one time she had let me taste her.
Fuck.
My wolf paced restlessly beneath my skin, claws scraping at the edges of my control. I’d been buried in pack business since dawn, the kind of tedious alliance negotiations that made me want to bare my teeth at the nearest wall.
I had texted her a couple of times and then mentally scolded myself for being so eager and desperate and worried about her.
She was at some fucking retreat, not in a war. She could handle herself. That’s what I told myself anyway.
After a very strong cup of black coffee and slamming my wolf down with more force than necessary, my brain was blessedly quiet for a while.
I finished another coffee for safe side, cracked my knuckles and focussed on the reports, checking through all of them to ensure I hadn’t missed anything else.
I patted myself on the back for finishing checking it all in under thirty minutes which was an impressive feat. Maybe, I shouldn’t really let distraction get to me.
With that thought in mind, I reached for my phone to put it away and focus on work for the remainder of the day when I saw a missed call from Sienna.
And followed by that was a message that I opened so fast I almost dropped the phone.
She had sent me a picture of some guy, a buff man around our age who seemed to be wearing some kind of uniform. He had a good physique and was smiling charmingly, no doubt the smile directed at her.
Getting plenty of attention here. She said in the text.

The intern, pale–faced and jittery, hovered by the door like she expected me to sprout fangs any second. “Alpha, we just got a mail from the client you wanted to talk to about-”
She blabbered something while my eyes read the message again and again as if trying to make sense of it.
What the fuck did she mean by that line? He was giving her attention? What kind of attention?
I cut the intern off with a sharp wave, dialing her number before I could think about it twice.
“…I am very good at pleasing women… I mean, making them feel relaxed.”
Ice flooded my veins, instantly replaced by white–hot fire. My free hand curled into a fist at my side, nails biting into my palm.
I heard him say and the thought of another man touching her, offering himself like some eager pup while she let him almost made me blind with fury.
The possessive roar in my head nearly drowned out everything else.
“Who the fuck is that?” I snarled, pushing off the wall so hard the marble cracked faintly behind me.
She had the nerve to tell me to hold. I heard her chatting with the bastard called Peter like they were discussing the weather. My jaw clenched so tight it ached.
