The Year I Stopped Being His novel Chapter 129

Garrison stared at him, saying nothing.

Jackson's smile stiffened, but he quickly forced it back into place. "Just for a moment. I won't take up too much of your time."

Garrison remained silent for two seconds before pulling open the back door of his car.

"Get in."

The car eventually parked outside a quiet little cafe down a nearby alley.

The interior was completely silent and practically empty.

Jackson ordered a pot of tea. When the waiter brought it over, Jackson personally poured a cup and pushed it in front of Garrison.

Garrison didn't touch it. He simply leaned back in his chair, staring coldly at the older man.

"Whatever you have to say, spit it out."

Jackson nervously rubbed his hands against his own cup. He cleared his throat and began.

"Garrison, I know it's probably not my place to say this, but... could you and Sloane reconsider this divorce?"

Garrison's lips twitched slightly, an indiscernible expression crossing his face.

"You're not here for your daughter," he said, his voice flat. "You're here for your company."

Jackson's face went pale.

Garrison recalled accidentally overhearing his mother on the phone a few days ago. He didn't know who was on the other end, but his mother's voice had dripped with scorn: 'Taylor Manufacturing Corp? Oh, cut ties with them. They're useless to us anyway.'

He hadn't cared at the time. Now, it made perfect sense.

"The moment Sloane left, the Foster family severed ties with you." Garrison's gaze was eerily calm, devoid of a single ripple. "Business is getting rough, isn't it?"

Jackson opened his mouth to argue, but the words died in his throat.

He lowered his head, staring at his tea, descending into silence for several seconds.

"I'm sorry," he suddenly muttered, his voice faint. "I admit, the company is struggling. But..."

He looked up at Garrison, his eyes rimmed with red. "But I didn't just come to you because of that."

"Whatever your reasons are, Sloane and I are divorced," Garrison cut him off, his tone glacial. "And she was the one who asked for it."
