Josh sat beside Professor Harrison, gripping his hand tightly, refusing to let go.
When he heard the word "doctor," a sudden realization flickered through his mind, but it vanished so quickly he didn't have time to process it.
"Where is this doctor?" He turned to look at Diego.
Diego gestured toward the side.
Josh finally noticed a striking young woman leaning against the wall, her arms crossed defensively. She had a sharp bob haircut and an icy expression, staying entirely silent.
Diego quickly clarified, "Not her. It's... the other guy."
Cassandra glanced at Josh, tilted her head toward the right, and said coldly, "In the next room."
"Oh right, Sloane is in there too... getting treated," Diego added.
Josh's face drained of color. "Getting treated? What happened to Sloane?!"
Diego quickly waved his hands. "Don't panic, Josh! She just... passed out from exhaustion."
Josh nodded, muttering a quick "Got it."
He stood up and stepped out of the room. The door next to theirs was cracked open, and warm, golden light spilled out onto the floorboards.
He walked up, gripped the edge of the door, and peeked inside.
And then, he saw that painfully familiar figure.
Garrison Foster.
The elegant, refined man was sitting on the edge of the bed, holding Sloane securely in his arms.
Sloane's head rested weakly against his shoulder, her neck angled in a fragile, vulnerable curve. Her eyes were closed, her face as white as a sheet, and her lips carried a faint glisten of moisture, as if someone had just carefully fed her water.
Garrison kept one arm wrapped around her shoulders while his other hand held a tissue, gently dabbing away a drop of water from the corner of her mouth. His movements were slow, incredibly tender, as if he were tending to a piece of shattered glass. His face was hidden in the shadows, masking his expression, but his entire posture radiated a desperate, almost reverent devotion.
