Natalie watched her coolly. "You probably didn't know this, but your P.E. teacher caught you bullying her and secretly went to the security room to copy the footage beforehand. She just didn't dare step forward because of your family's background."
This was the exact file Julian had handed over to Natalie.
The teacher, the homeroom advisor, and every single accomplice had been dragged into the light.
"Impossible..." Lara frantically refreshed the news feed on her phone.
But the very next headline featured her own father giving a live interview, publicly disowning her and stating that having such a vicious daughter was a disgrace to the family.
"How is this possible..."
She was an only child. Her dad only had her! How could he kick her out over something like this?
"You probably didn't expect karma to come back and bite you so hard. You abused Cora because her family wouldn't protect her. Now, your family doesn't want you either."
Lara's phone started ringing. It was her mother.
She answered with trembling hands. "Mom! Get those trending searches taken down right now! I'm losing my mind! Is Dad crazy?! He shouldn't have responded at all!"
"You have the nerve to say that?! Do you have any idea what you've done? Did you know you've been kicked out? The family fortune is going to his secret half-brother now!"
Lara's mind went entirely blank. She had absolutely no idea her father had an illegitimate son.
Such a massive opportunity had just been handed over to a stranger.
Lara collapsed onto the floor, utterly broken.
She had walked into this reunion expecting to be the center of attention. Now, everyone stood around her, holding up their phones, recording her misery—just like she had once done to Cora.
The cameras were finally pointed at her.
Natalie slipped out of the crowd, left the room, and pushed open the door to the adjacent private suite.
In the dimly lit room, Cora stood silently by the floor-to-ceiling window.
"Why didn't you turn on the lights?" Natalie asked, walking toward her.
"Honestly, I thought I had forgotten it all," Cora whispered softly. "But when I heard Lara's voice just now, I realized I was shaking. I barely even remember what happened back then."
"Because those memories were too painful. Your brain chose to lock them away to protect you."
