The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 638

"Just go when I tell you to go!" Margaret snapped irritably.

Right on cue, a sharp knock echoed through the house.

Several grim-faced police officers stood at the door. David's blood ran cold; a terrifying sense of doom washed over him.

Stepping into the house right behind the officers were Jamie and Hayden.

Once the officers stated their purpose—placing Margaret under arrest—she erupted into dramatic wails.

Originally, Jamie and Hayden had come to witness the arrests personally to get some closure. But seeing Margaret reduced to a skeletal, bedridden shell, they didn't even bother saying anything. The universe was already delivering its own punishment.

Through her tears, Margaret pleaded with Jamie, "Please, let Suzie come see me. I wronged her. I just want to apologize to her face to face."

Jamie stared at her with glacial indifference, refusing to even grace her with a response.

Hayden, however, looked at her with pure disgust. "You malicious hag. Do you have any idea how many lives you ruined out of pure greed? An apology?! My sister was at your mercy and endured God knows how much abuse! I could rip your head off right now and it still wouldn't be enough!"

Margaret sobbed loudly. "No matter what I did, I still raised her! She cried and begged to go to college, and I paid for it! She was older than my other two kids, so what was wrong with making her do some chores? And as for hitting her—what parent doesn't discipline their kids? Even if I made mistakes, I kept a roof over her head!"

Hayden sneered. "Enough! Looking at you, if you don't rot in a cell, you'll be dead soon anyway. This is exactly what you deserve. Don't even dream of seeing Suzie. You will never see her again for the rest of your pathetic life."

Margaret let out a gut-wrenching wail. David looked like his legs were about to give out. He dropped to his knees, openly weeping. "I know we committed a terrible sin! Please, stop. Margaret can't take this kind of stress in her condition. You said you've found the truth... I'm begging you, tell me where my real daughter is. Please!"

Hayden completely ignored him. Jamie cast them one final, disgusted glance before turning on his heel and walking out the door.

A moment later, Hayden followed him outside.
