The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 635

The vanity was completely trashed, makeup spilling over the edges, and the heavy silk curtains had been violently yanked and torn. Several empty suitcases lay haphazardly on the floor, some unzipped and waiting to be packed.

Taking in the destruction, Hayden felt a pang of sympathy. He could easily picture Vivian having a total meltdown here, unable to process the reality that her entire life was a lie.

He stepped further into the room and noticed the stuffed animals. Aside from one massive plushie still perfectly intact on the bed, several smaller ones had been brutally slashed to pieces and tossed onto the sofa.

Hayden recognized them. Some he had bought for her; others they had won together at arcades when they were younger. Even though they had outgrown that phase, Vivian had always cherished them.

He walked over, examining the material of the mutilated toys, comparing it to the twisted doll in the box. But the arcade toys were notoriously cheap, making it impossible to draw any definitive conclusions.

After lingering in the wrecked room for a few minutes, Hayden retreated to his own bedroom. He took the sinister doll out of the box, untied the cursed slip of paper, and then placed the doll back inside.

Just then, he heard footsteps in the hall. It sounded like Vivian had returned and was pushing her door open.

Hayden grabbed the box and walked over, knocking gently on her door.

Moments later, it swung open. Vivian stood there, her eyes red and severely swollen. She glared at him. "Are you here to rush me out? I'm packing. Don't worry, I'll have my real parents reimburse you for everything in this room. And I'll pay back every cent of child support once I start making my own money."

Seeing her look so haggard and shattered, Hayden's heart softened. Yet, her words stung, prompting a gentle reprimand. "Vivian, why are you talking to me like this?"
