Kissing Kairos was an experience akin to tasting flames, a scorching heat that ignited every nerve in my body.
The moment his lips met mine, it felt as though a match had been struck, unleashing a surge of warmth that enveloped me.
His hands encircled my wrists with a possessive grip, while his hips pressed firmly against mine, sending shockwaves of heat coursing through my veins. It was exhilarating, intoxicating, and in that moment, I should have anticipated the combustion that followed. Yet, when I suddenly erupted in flames, I saw the surprise etched across his face. He recoiled as if I had burned him, his eyes wide with confusion as the fire danced along my chin. Just as swiftly as it had ignited, the flames extinguished, leaving behind an air of uncertainty. Kairos’s gaze darted between my eyes, searching for answers, trying to discern whether the fire that had erupted from my skin was born of fear or exhilaration.
Instead of voicing his questions, he leaned in and kissed me again, a fierce urgency in his touch.
A soft moan escaped my lips, blending with the taste of smoke and pine that lingered on his tongue. It drove me to the brink of madness, a wild yearning that I couldn’t ignore. Just then, another flare of flames erupted from my hands, searing the fabric of his shirt. But Kairos, unfazed, ripped it away, his focus solely on reclaiming my mouth.
The sensation of his bare chest pressing against mine was enough to reignite the fire within me for a third time. I instinctively tugged at my own shirt, eager for the warmth of our skin against each other. A whimper of desire escaped me, echoing the tumult of emotions swirling inside.
With a swift motion, Kairos’s hands cupped the underside of my thighs, lifting me effortlessly into the air. He spun me around, our lips never breaking contact for even a heartbeat, before pinning me against the cold metal of the lockers. The sound of my back colliding with the lockers sent a thrill through me, only intensifying my moans. Seizing the moment, Kairos plunged his tongue into my mouth, and I responded eagerly, nipping and sucking at him as his hands explored the backs of my thighs.
His body pressed into mine, a hardness growing between us that felt like pure ecstasy as he ground against me. Another moan escaped my lips, our mouths still tangled together, never truly parting. As he trailed kisses down the side of my neck, I clawed at his back, the heat and desire coursing through me spiraling into a maddening frenzy.
Kissing Kairos was like being consumed by hellfire.
But wait.
I was kissing Kairos.
In an instant, he released me, and I landed on the bench beneath the lockers with a thud that echoed through the room. A yelp escaped my lips as I hit the surface. Meanwhile, Kairos leaned back against the lockers opposite me, our gazes locked, both of us panting heavily, the air thick with tension. My eyes traced the rise and fall of his chest, and the longing surged within me once more, a fire rekindling in my throat. I had to escape before I did something I would regret.
Swallowing hard, I pushed myself off the bench and bolted from the locker room. I caught a fleeting glimpse of Kairos calling my name, but I ignored the insistent tug in my chest, urging me to turn back and seek him out. I burst through the door into the chaos outside, a crowd gathering as students spilled from the gym following the fight. Their cheers faded into the background as I sprinted away, the cold winter air biting against my bare skin, snuffing out any remnants of fire that still flickered within me.
Kairos Moonraiser and I had shared a kiss.
And to complicate matters, Kairos Moonraiser was one of my fated mates. This revelation twisted my insides with anger and confusion. It meant that the four candidates my mother had chosen for me last summer were, in fact, my four mates. Did she know?
“Fuck,” I hissed under my breath, my determination solidifying as I ran. The towering Admissions building loomed ahead, a beacon guiding me toward my destination. She had to know.
