Chapter 106 Whitney Kidnapped?
Ryan’s expression visibly lightened.
He glanced at the photo, as if something had occurred to him. “So, what’s going on with the Anderson family?”
During the show’s filming, it was obvious there was some tension between Chase, Emily, and Whitney.
Even without Whitney saying anything, Ryan could pretty much guess what was going on between them.
“I was stupid, honestly. I longed for a family that was never mine to begin with, and ended up neglecting the people who actually cared about me,” Whitney admitted.
She had no intention of keeping anything from Ryan.
Given Ryan’s status, it would be effortless for him to find out everything about her and the Anderson family.
She was willing to share the secrets about her mentor and fellow students with Ryan, which meant she really considered him a friend.
Ryan picked up on the wistfulness in Whitney’s voice, along with a touch of self–deprecation.
He stepped closer to the photo, his refined eyes carefully studying it.
“People who aren’t important don’t deserve your attention,” he said. “You look so happy in the photo.”
The girl in the picture was truly radiant with happiness.
She was pampered and cherished, a little princess.
Whitney’s fingertip gently traced the photo, her eyes misting over.
די
‘Yeah,‘ Whitney thought to herself. I really was happy.
‘So why did I go chasing after a happiness that was never meant to be mine?”
When Whitney found out her real parents had over ten years desperately searching for her and sent someone to
bring her home, her heart was filled with hope.
At that moment… her very first thought was, I finally have a real family, as well as my own flesh and blood.
‘I’m not some abandoned kid. My parents, my family, they’ve been looking for me this whole time.”
Other than her mentor and fellow students, there were still some people in this world who loved her.
The first time she video–called Paula, she saw Whitney standing by a withered old tree, in front of a rundown thatched hut, and was crying her heart out.
Paula’s words were full of regret and guilt, every sentence coming out between sobs.
Paula said she wanted to make up for all the lost years, to give Whitney the nineteen years of motherly love she’d missed.
Whitney believed her, like that.
So she agreed to Paula’s request, choosing to leave her mentor and fellow students behind to go back to the Anderson family.
She thought, ‘Once I get back to the Anderson family and get close to everyone, I’ll take them, along with my mentor and fellow students, to meet my real parents.
‘The Anderson family is my home.
‘My mentor and fellow students are my family, too.
‘Just picturing everyone from both sides sitting together, laughing and having a great time, I’d be the happiest person in the world.‘
But when Whitney finally arrived at the Anderson family, she realized Paula had already had a foster daughter by her side for nineteen years, a girl who had taken Whitney’s place.
Her brothers‘ hearts were all with the foster daughter.
Paula, who had cried in front of Whitney, full of guilt and regret, and promised to make it up to her, would always favor Emily whenever Whitney and Emily were together.
She thought she really should have left at that moment.
But the thought of blood ties, of finally having real parents and brothers, kept her from leaving.
She still wanted to give it a shot, to see if she could find her place in this family.
But in the end, her stubbornness led to her downfall; she met a tragic end, left with nothing, not a place to rest.
Chapter 106 Whitney Kidnapped?
Her choices cost her everything, even her life.
Whitney’s fingers pressed against the photo, curling one by one, her eyes filled with emotions too complex to decipher.
But Ryan could still sense the deep sorrow and pain coming from her.
He reached out, his large, reassuring hand covering the back of her own.
His subtle, refreshing scent, reminiscent of cedar, lingered in the air, and his tall, graceful presence seemed to shield her from the world.
“It’s alright, and they’re all still waiting for you, aren’t they?” Ryan said.
His voice was soft and soothing, almost enchanting, like a gentle stream calming the turmoil inside her.
‘Yeah,‘ Whitney thought. ‘It’s alright. They’re still waiting for me.”
Whitney stared at the people in the photo, her eyes lingering with a deep, unspoken emotion.
Lost in her thoughts, she didn’t realize how close she and Ryan were, almost as if there was something more between them Once Whitney had checked that the whole villa was spotless, with everything regularly restocked and nothing left for her to worry about, she told Ryan he could head back.
Ryan could tell she needed some time alone, so he nodded. “Someone will bring you lunch later. Just make sure to open the door.”
Whitney replied, “Thanks.”
After a brief pause, Whitney remembered something. “Oh, right. Last time I tried to take your pulse, I couldn’t get a clear read; your situation’s a bit tricky, so I need to prepare first.
“How about two nights from now? I’ll give you a proper examination then.”
She thought for a moment and asked, “Are you free that evening?”
Ryan didn’t blink, completely ignoring the family dinner he was supposed to attend. “Yeah, I’m free,” he said smoothly. “Alright, then come over to my place two nights from now,” Whitney nodded. “And you don’t need to have anyone bring me food for the next couple of days.”
Ryan pressed his lips together. “Where are you headed?”
“I need to get some things ready,” Whitney replied. “Your situation is pretty complicated, and I can’t use the standard methods to treat you. I need to head back for a while.”
She was planning to visit her mentor and fellow students, grab her usual medical gear, and check in on them while she was
at it.
Ryan responded quietly.
After a few seconds of silence, he asked, “Do you want me to come with you?”
“No need. It’s all mountain roads; you wouldn’t be able to handle it,” Whitney replied. ‘Honestly, bringing him along would just make things way more complicated.‘
The place where her mentor and fellow students lived wasn’t just full of traps and hidden mechanisms; the paths were so tough that one had to be an acrobat to get through.
If anything happened to him along the way, she’d have to worry about him the whole time.
It was really a pain.
Ryan didn’t push it.
Whitney was heading back to get things ready, and she’d definitely be seeing her mentor and fellow students, the ones in the photo.
If he went with her, he’d be intruding.
He just said, “If you need anything, call me. I’ll come right away.”
Night fell.
Whitney had bought a bunch of quirky little things from outside, and now she was leaving Prestige Manor, her arms full of bags.
Just picturing herself reuniting with her mentor and fellow students after two years made her heart race.
She couldn’t help but quicken her pace, excitement bubbling up inside her
She’d planned to walk to the nearest car lot from Prestige Manor and pick up the car she’d arranged.
Chapter 106 Whitney Kidnapped?
About half a mile out from Prestige Manor, Whitney noticed something unusual.
She realized there were several figures following her.
Even after spending two years with the Anderson family, or three years in her previous life, her instincts for danger were still as keen as ever.
She glanced back, and the streetlights cast long, tangled shadows behind her.
The footsteps behind her were uneven and chaotic.
They were holding long metal rods in their hands.
It was clear these guys were up to no good.
The people following her caught on that Whitney had spotted them.
Instead of hiding, they started joking around as they picked up speed, closing in on her from all sides.
Whitney stopped in her tracks.
There were seven guys, each with hair dyed in wild colors, looking rough and shady.
They were covered in tattoos, looked fierce, and every one of them was carrying a metal rod.
But the oldest among them couldn’t have been more than twenty–five.
