Chapter 154 Setting a Trap
Chapter 154 Setting a Trap
Whitney pulled out her phone and dialed Ryan.
He picked up almost instantly.
His voice was warm and low, lingering in her ear like velvet. “Whitney, what’s up?”
Whitney was so floored by the way he said her name, like he was savoring every syllable, that her heart felt fried and her brain turned to mush.
She barely managed to keep her lips from quirking and didn’t bother correcting him. “I need a favor.”
Ryan’s voice perked up. “What kind of favor? Say the word, Whitney, I’d do anything for you.”
“No need for all that,” Whitney replied. “Have someone go to Roynfort Broadcasting. When Kayla’s live stream wraps up, get your people to take her away.”
Ryan said, “Wait, who’s Kayla?”
Whitney couldn’t believe it. ‘They literally did a show together, and he still doesn’t know who she is?”
She didn’t bother explaining. “Your people should recognize her. Send someone from the Pierce family to get her.”/
“Got it, leave it to me,” Ryan replied, not even asking for a reason.
Whitney thanked him and was about to hang up.
But on the other end, Ryan’s breathing shifted, a hint of something different.
He sounded like he was about to say something, but in the end, nothing came out.
Whitney’s finger hovered over the end call button, her gaze lingering on his name on the screen.
After a few seconds of silence, Whitney said, “We’re having a group dinner here. If you’re finished with work, you can come join us.”
“Sure,” Ryan chuckled, his deep, velvety laugh brushing over her ears like soft feathers, sending warmth straight to her heart.
It left a gentle, tingling sensation that made her feel shivery and warm inside.
Whitney’s lashes, dark as raven feathers, lowered and quivered softly like butterfly wings.
Ryan added, “I really miss your cooking, Whitney.”
For some reason, Whitney found his voice way too tempting. It had that kind of pull that made her heart skip a beat.
Her cheeks flushed, and she felt her face getting hot.
She let out a soft response. “So hurry up and come over. I’ll whip up something you can actually eat.”
Ryan’s tone turned playful, his voice bubbling with happiness. “Is Whitney missing me already?”
Whitney was at a loss. ‘Should I hang up before he gets any more shameless?
‘This guy doesn’t even bother acting cool. He’s got zero celebrity airs.’
She didn’t answer, and Ryan didn’t push it. He let out a low chuckle. “Guess Whitney misses me, so I’ll head over now.”
Whitney said, “I don’t.”
He acted like he didn’t hear her at all. “Anyway, I’m coming over. Whitney, make sure to come get me.”
‘Yeah, right,’ Whitney thought.
Whitney hung up on him without another word.
Then she went back to cooking.
‘It’s not like he hasn’t been to my place a million times. Pick him up? Yeah, right. As if I’d ever do that. Not in this lifetime, Whitney scoffed to herself.
Ten minutes later, Whitney was still wearing her apron, standing at the door with an expressionless face as she opened it to Ryan’s dazzling smile.
“Get in here,” Whitney said, with a hint of impatience as she stepped aside to let him in.
Ryan’s eyes landed on Whitney’s apron.
It was pink and white, with a lazy pink-and-white cat printed on the front, sprawled out like it owned the place.
That lazy, carefree look on the cat really captured Whitney’s spirit.

Ryan’s dark, noble eyes softened with a warm smile. “What you asked me to do. I’ve already sent someone over. Once Kayla finishes up, they’ll pick her up.”
Whitney nodded. “Have them bring her here. I’ve got something to discuss with her.”
With Emily’s personality, you can bet she’d never let anyone walk all over her. If she really were threatened by Kayla and
handed over six point seven million dollars, Emily would stop at nothing to reclaim every cent
Kayla might get her hands on the money, but spending it? That’s a whole different story.
Honestly, Whitney couldn’t care less if Kayla lived or died. What she really wanted was Kayla’s bank account.
At least for now, Kayla couldn’t die yet.
Whitney led Ryan inside.
The others were all taken aback when they saw Ryan walk in.
Ryan strolled in like he owned the place, slipped into his own slippers, grabbed his personal cup, and filled it with water.
Then he’sauntered into the living room, looking every bit the master of the house, and flashed everyone a casual smile.
“Sorry I’m late,” he said.
Everyone was speechless.
‘Looks like Ryan and Whitney are the real deal. Wow, they actually live together, everyone thought.
Everyone looked like they’d seen their favorite couple go official, total fangirl vibes all around.
“Ryan.” A twelve-year-old girl popped out from behind Henry, staring at Ryan like he was some kind of deity, then glanced at Whitney heading to the kitchen, looking every bit like a goddess.
She asked, her eyes full of curiosity, “Ryan, are you and Whitney dating?”
Nora and Elian were floored.
‘What a gutsy kid. Now that’s a real hero, everyone thought.
They all gave Mr. Howard’s daughter a silent thumbs-up, barely able to contain their excitement.
Everyone waited for Ryan’s answer.
Ryan glanced over at Whitney.
Whitney, who was about to head into the kitchen, paused mid-step, momentarily caught off guard by the question.
Ryan’s lips curled into a playful smile as he crouched down and ruffled the girl’s hair. “Not yet.”
The girl’s eyes went wide, clearly not buying it.
Ryan grinned. “But I’m definitely trying my best to win your Whitney over and make her my girlfriend.”
The girl’s eyes instantly lit up, sparkling with excitement.
Whitney was speechless.
Whitney opened her mouth, about to say something.
But in the end, she slipped into the kitchen without saying a word.
Nora sidled up to Elian, eyes glued to the kitchen. “Wait, is Whitney actually shy?”
Elian snorted. “Whitney? Shy? No way.”
Nora stroked her chin, looking like a detective who’d cracked the case. “Ryan basically confessed. If Whitney didn’t feel anything for him, she would’ve decked him ages ago.
“So, since Whitney didn’t say anything, it’s basically her way of saying yes. Ryan’s totally got a shot.”
Everyone instantly looked over at Ryan.
And together, they shouted, “Go for it.”
Once Whitney was in the kitchen, she pulled out her phone again, switched to another app, and made a call.
The call was picked up almost instantly.
A boy’s lively voice burst through the line. “Vee. Wow, you actually called me first. This is epic.”
“I’m sending you something. I’ve got a job for you,” Whitney said, getting straight to the point.
The guy on the other end got even more pumped. “Is it wild? Is it tricky? If it’s not crazy or a pain, I’m not interested.”
“It’s exciting,” Whitney said, raising an eyebrow. “But for someone with your skills, it should be a piece of cake.”

With that, she hung up.
Whitney tapped a few times on her phone and sent a bunch of stuff to the account called Vee’s Fan.
Back at Whitney’s place, the vibe was warm and lively.
Meanwhile, over at Roynfort Broadcasting, the live interview had Emily sweating bullets.
Liz, the host, kept firing off sharp, ruthless questions. Emily was struggling to keep her composure.
Thankfully, Kayla kept stepping in to bail her out, giving Emily a moment to breathe.
What Emily didn’t realize was that every time Kayla guided the conversation, she was actually pushing Emily’s reputation closer to the edge.
