Chapter 179 The Mastermind
place. No one is to come near, understand?” As he shouted these orders, his voice was piercing and shrill, trembling with
rage
The paper he’d been clutching slipped from his hand and drifted to the floor. In the dim light, there was no complicated formula on the paper, only a single line of text.
One line, written in tiny Tetters: [Surprised? Didn’t see that coming? This isn’t the formula you were after. It’s your one-way ticket to hell.] That was all.
It was clear now. This so-called formula was nothing but a trap Ryan had set for him. He’d fallen for it. He never expected Ryan would actually fool him.
He stumbled toward the door, his steps unsteady, but suddenly froze in place. Because normally, whenever he called out, his hidden bodyguards and loyal enforcers would appear instantly, ready to carry out his orders.
But this time, a few moments passed, and the place was eerily silent. None of his people showed up. ‘Damn, he thought. Something’s wrong. As I feared, someone tracked me down using that formula.
His heart skipped a beat, and he rushed to the door, reaching behind it for something. As his hand was about to touch a raised object behind the door, a sharp whoosh sound cut through the air.
With a heavy thud, his arm went numb, and he staggered back two steps, slamming into the wall. A pebble landed on the floor with a clear, ringing clack.
“Hey, we finally meet again. What’s the rush to leave?” A cool, commanding female voice echoed through the empty, eerie room, carrying a faint chill that made the space feel more unsettling. It was almost like a jump scare straight out of a horror flick.
The person looked up, following the sound. There, a girl in casual clothes, hands shoved in her pockets, walked in from the direction Evan had left, looking totally relaxed and unbothered.
The dim light fell across her face, revealing features so mesmerizing, like a forbidden flower blooming at midnight, hauntingly gorgeous and impossible to look away from. Her lips curled into a faint, teasing smile, her eyes fixed on him with a captivating, almost dangerous allure.
“You!” The person’s brows knitted together, his voice laced with disbelief.
Whitney arched an eyebrow. “Who else did you think it’d be?”
The person’s expression shifted, impossible to read. Whitney swept her gaze over him, sizing him up from head to toe. This was the same guy in black who’d broken into her mentor and fellow students’ homes.
