Chapter 181 Ryan’s Muther
Chapter 181 Ryan’s Mother
Why?” Ryan asked.
Xavier let out a low chuckle, and with that twisted face of his, he looked creepier. He stared at Ryan. His eyes were a raging storm of emotions. So complicated, it was impossible to read him.
As he laughed, two streams of tears suddenly trickled down from his hollow eye sockets. His laughter turned wild and manic. “You’re asking me why? Why… I want to know why, too.”
That manic expression made Ryan’s frown deepen further. Whitney patted Ryan’s hand, signaling him to stay calm and not let Xavier’s emotions manipulate or control him. Because Ryan now had Xavier’s bug inside him.
If Xavier deliberately manipulated Ryan’s emotions to activate the prime bug and use it against him, Whitney might not be able to seal the bug in Ryan’s body in time.
As for bugs, she’d only glimpsed them in her mentor’s notes and had never really studied them in depth herself. She wasn’t confident she could handle it. No way was she going to let Ryan risk it.
“You…you two…” Xavier growled. His chilling gaze swept from Ryan to Whitney, then locked onto their joined hands. His face twisted again.
After a few seconds, he started laughing like a madman. “It’s real… That old bastard was right. It’s really true… You two actually got together.”
Whitney frowned hard at his words. “That old bastard? Who are you talking about?”She had a hunch. ‘He must be talking about my mentor, she thought.
But Xavier didn’t acknowledge her and kept laughing to himself. He laughed for a few minutes. Soon, he was gasping for breath, his gaunt face looking more frail.
He was so unsteady on his feet that he had to lean against the wall behind him, swaying as if he might collapse at any
moment.
After a few ragged breaths, Xavier finally spoke again, “Now that you know, I won’t keep it from you anymore. There are some things you should know.”
His gaze was chilling, and he began to recount his story, word by word. Xavier was Edward’s younger brother, Ryan’s uncle, and he and Ryan’s mother, Lila, had studied under the same mentor.
Xavier played matchmaker, introducing Edward to Lila, and thanks to him, the two fell in love. Of course, that was what Edward assumed. He thought Xavier was helping him out.
Xavier brought Lila to the Pierce family home, hoping his family would meet the girl he cared about. But he never expected that he’d lose the girl he loved to his own brother.
Xavier had always had feelings for Lila, but kept them hidden. He’d been in love with her for ten years, from the moment they started training together as fellow students, yet he never confessed. In the end, Edward and Lila got together “Did you guys train together? Were you fellow students? Who was your mentor? A bug master?” Whitney blurted out, cutting Xavier off mid-story.
ľ
‘I can’t help but feel the mentor Xavier’s talking about is actually my own mentor, Whitney thought. Xavier shot Whitney a cold, menacing look, clearly annoyed at being interrupted. But he still answered, “Lila was the chosen saintess of Willowriver, destined to become the most powerful woman in the whole town.”
‘Willowriver?’ Whitney wondered. ‘Willowriver Bug?’ Ryan’s grip on her hand suddenly tightened.
“That’s right, the saintess of Willowriver! She was meant to be a wild rose, free, fierce, shining, and unstoppable, a woman who could stand above everyone,” Xavier said, his voice full of regret.
But a girl like that, so dazzling and untamed. The moment she met Edward, she fell hard for him. For his sake, she was willing to give up everything she had.
She clipped her own wings, locking herself inside the Pierce family’s golden cage, turning herself into nothing more than Edward’s precious songbird.
Would someone like her ever truly be happy? That was Lila’s choice. For the woman he loved, Xavier could only swallow his pain and accept it all.
But he couldn’t bear to watch the girl he loved Ic Successfully unlocked! Pierce family’s gilded cage, her spirit slowly crushed by the weight of their world.
Edward did love Lila. That was true. But he also had the Pierce family to look after, a huge family with endless

responsibilities. Love alone couldn’t be his whole world.
6 even if Lila broke her own wings and willingly stepped into that cage, she could never truly have all of Edward, or his whote heart.
Besides, Lila had always been used to living freely in Willowriver. Her personality was too bold and wild. She was never meant for the cutthroat games and backstabbing that carne with life in the Pierde family.
The Pierce family was massive, and all those side branches were constantly watching for a chance to take her down. Their wives and daughters were always finding excuses to pick on Lila, making her life a living hell.
Xavier could only watch as Lila’s smiles faded, her worries grew, and she spent more and more time lost in thought. He felt like his heart was being ripped apart.
Xavier’d begged her more than once to leave with him. But Lila told him she was expecting. She was having Edward’s baby. Leaving was out of the question. Later, the baby was born. It was Ryan.
But after Ryan came into the world, Edward still barely spent any time at home. He made sure to come home every night, never staying out anywhere else. He did everything he could to be there for Lila and Ryan.
Lila’s pregnancy and childbirth were anything but smooth. The other branches of the Pierce family kept stirring up trouble, making things harder for her. After giving birth, Lila fell into a deep postpartum depression.
Xavier’s heart ached for her. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t convince Lila, and he was utterly powerless to help her. He could only watch helplessly as Lila grew thinner and more despondent, her spark slowly dying out.
And as Edward kept breaking his promises, missing Lila’s birthday and their anniversary, Lila’s heart grew heavier and heavier. Later, Edward got trapped. Someone set him up and snapped some scandalous photos, turning them into gossip that spread like wildfire.
Then all those relatives from the side branches swarmed in, throwing shade and snide remarks at Lila, making her life a nightmare.
In the end, Lila chose to leave the Pierce family. She left suddenly, quietly slipping a pendant into Ryan’s hand before disappearing without a word. Xavier had no clue where she had gone.
At this point, Xavier turned his attention to Whitney. “You came here because you want answers about your mentor, didn’t you?”
Whitney narrowed her eyes. “What’s the connection between my mentor and Willowriver?”
“Your mentor was like us. We all learned from the same master. He was our senior fellow student, the favorite disciple, and the one our mentor picked to help Lila,” Xavier explained.
He couldn’t hide the jealousy in his voice when he talked about Whitney’s mentor. His eyes grew colder. “Lila didn’t leave that pendant for Ryan only as a keepsake. That pendant was the symbol of the saintess of Willowriver.
“The pendant was split in two. Ryan kept one half, and Whitney’s mentor took the other. That was Lila’s wish. She hoped Whitney’s mentor would help take care of Ryan.”
