Chapter 401 Know Her Better
Chapter 40 I Know Her Better
Chase’s tone turned cold. “Mr. Rierce, don’t you have anything better to do?”
The way he said “Mr. Pierce” sounded mocking.
Ryan raised an eyebrow, his refined, sharp eyes fixed on Chase.
“Let’s see,” he said slowly. “I eat Whitney’s food, spend her money, and sleep in her bed. Everything I have comes from her. So yeah, I stick around.”
He narrowed his eyes, his voice turning icy. “Chase, you got a problem with that?” Chase’s expression twisted as he tried to say something, but in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to say yes.
He watched Whitney walk away, gritting his teeth. “Mr. Pierce, you don’t know what she’s really like. All you’re doing by protecting her is making things worse.”
Chase wanted Ryan to see Whitney the way he saw her.
If Whitney lost Ryan’s support, she would have no choice but to crawl back to Chase and become his meek little sister again.
So Chase decided to go all out to trash her in front of Ryan. “I knew her before this show. The person you see on camera is not who she really is.
“You know what she said earlier? Emily apologized to her to keep things peaceful for the shoot, but what did Whitney do? She started cursing us out, throwing all kinds of nasty insults our way.”
As he spoke, he kept watching Ryan’s face for any sign of a reaction.
But Ryan’s expression stayed completely indifferent, not a single flicker of emotion in his eyes.
So after thinking about it, Chase turned up the heat. “Before she got famous, she was just some girl from nowhere.
“No parents, no upbringing, no sense of right and wrong. All she knows is playing dirty tricks to get people to feel sorry for her.”
He put on a sincere, concerned voice. “With your background, you could have anyone you want. Why are you wasting your time on someone like her?”
Emily listened to Chase tear Whitney down, and she felt a wave of relief and joy..
Knowing that Chase still hated Whitney made her feel safe.
And hearing Chase trash Whitney in front of Ryan made her feel absolutely delighted.
‘That pathetic woman doesn’t deserve to stand next to someone like Ryan. He belongs with me,‘ she thought.

She held back her smile and kept up her innocent, wounded act, her eyes red and misty as she spoke softly, “Mr. Pierce, please don’t be angry at Chase for being harsh. He doesn’t want to see you get tricked.”
She hung her head, like she was too hurt to continue. “Whitney is really difficult. I honestly wanted to get through this show without any problems, since making a scene on camera wouldn’t be good for anyone, but she…”
Her voice trailed off, and her eyes got even redder.
“Are you done?” Ryan’s voice was cold, with an edge that cut through the air.
Chase and Emily didn’t get what they wanted.
Ryan wasn’t angry, and he didn’t seem disappointed in Whitney either.
Instead, he looked at them with those elegant eyes that showed no emotion at all. Then, Ryan slowly raised his hand.
In his long, graceful fingers was a phone, and he turned the screen toward them.
It was the voice recording app. He had been recording everything they said the whole time.
Chase’s eyes widened in shock. “Why are you recording us?”
He didn’t think he’d said anything wrong.
But if that recording got out, he would be torn apart by his own fans for trashing a woman behind her back.
He never expected someone like Ryan, who seemed so above it all, to play dirty like
this.
Once Ryan saw that they understood what was on the screen, he hooked his finger around the phone and slid it back into his pocket with a smooth motion.
He kept that same lazy, untouchable attitude. “I know exactly what kind of person Whitney is better than you do. You’re blind and stupid, but I’m not.
“And I know exactly what kind of people you two are.”
As he spoke, Emily caught a fleeting sidelong glance from him.
Whitney’s words suddenly flashed through her mind.
“We all know exactly what you are. So do us all a favor and drop the act,” Whitney had said.
Emily’s eyes went wide, and her fingers curled into a tight fist.
She had the strange feeling that Ryan was hinting at the same thing as Whitney.
“Mr. Pierce…” she started, desperate to say something.

But once she met his icy stare, the words died in her throat.
Ryan barely looked her way. Even though he wasn’t trying to intimidate them, the cold pressure in the air was crushing.
His voice was low and cool, sharp like ice. “Whitney is easy to get along with. If you have a problem with her, the issue is you. Do you understand?”
He weighed the phone in his hand and waved it in front of them. “I already sent the recording to Whitney. Next time you see her, walk the other way.”
His voice was perfectly calm, but the weight of it pressed down on Chase and Emily until they could barely breathe.
They didn’t say a word until Ryan left, and even then, they still stood there frozen.
After a long moment, Emily finally snapped out of it.
She glanced around at where they were standing, her face suddenly pale. She grabbed Chase’s hand in a panic. “Chase, we’re in trouble. We’re on camera.”
That little path by the restroom didn’t have any cameras, but once someone stepped out from there, they were back in the shot.
All they could do was hope for the best.
Neither of them had their mics on. Whitney had turned hers off when she went to the restroom, and Ryan’s was off too.
Even though they were in view of the cameras, the live stream audience probably wouldn’t notice what was happening over there.
And even if they did, they wouldn’t be able to hear anything.
Still, Chase’s back was drenched in sweat.
‘Whitney’s trying every trick she has to get me to spill the truth about her being the real Anderson heiress on camera.
‘I’ve walked right into it. She’s downright vicious,’ he thought bitterly.

When Whitney saw Ryan come back, she picked up the sponsor’s phone and waved it at him. “What’s the point of recording this?”
On the first day everyone arrived at the island, all the guests‘ personal phones were locked away in a metal box.
What they had now were the sponsor’s phones, which didn’t connect to the internet. Those phones only had some basic features and one single app called CommsBox, which allowed the ten of them to message each other.
“Just saving you some trouble,” Ryan said as he walked over. “I’m not trying to interfere,

but Chase and Emily went way too far.”
He gave Whitney a cautious glance, and his cold, arrogant attitude around Chase and Emily from earlier completely disappeared.
Once he saw that Whitney wasn’t upset, he went on, “If I hadn’t been trying to record them, I would have gone after them the second they started running their mouths.”
Whitney laughed. “What, trying to make the headlines tomorrow? ‘Top Celebrity Beats Up Superstar Live on Air. What Is the World Coming To?”
Ryan relaxed when he saw her smile. “So you’re not mad at me for getting involved?”
