Chapter 67 Turn the Public Opinion

Brandon said, “I’m really glad you see it that way. I-”

He seemed to relax a little, but he stopped himself mid-thought and softened his tone. “Emily, I’m not going to let this slide. When you get back from the island, I’ll buy you that car you’ve been wanting.”

Emily was furious. She thought, ‘What is Brandon trying to say? He’s actually glad I see it this way, isn’t he? He thinks I stole Whitney’s life and her family, doesn’t he?

‘He thinks a little humiliation for me doesn’t matter, right? I thought I had the Anderson family under my control, but in the end, it means nothing against blood ties.

‘Brandon is taking Whitney’s side. He won’t stand up for me. He’s telling me to endure this. Does he really think a car will/ make this okay? I don’t want that damn car

Emily’s eyes were red with anger as she mentally tore both Brandon and Whitney apart, but she didn’t dare push Brandon too far.

After all, Brandon was now calling the shots for the Anderson family, standing in for Edgar. If she wanted to stay in the family, she couldn’t do it without Brandon watching her back.

She took a deep breath, tried to steady herself, and forced a smile. “Thanks.”

Brandon could tell she was upset. He wanted to say more, but only sighed softly. “Get some rest. Don’t overthink it. I understand what you’re going through.”

Before figuring out the relationship between Whitney and Ryan, turning against Whitney now would only make Edgar more dissatisfied with Emily.

Though it seemed the Anderson family was now in his hands, Edgar still held the real power.

He did care for Emily, but he was, above all, a businessman, one who valued interests above family ties.

Brandon was actually trying to protect Emily, but she had already begun to resent him.

After hanging up, Emily clenched her teeth, raising her hand as if to smash the phone against the ground and vent her fury. She gritted her teeth, hand raised, ready to smash it and let out all her rage.

At the last second, she stopped herself.

This phone belonged to the production team. Sure, she could pay for it, but if it ended up on the livestream, her already shaky reputation would take another hit.

She spent a long moment forcing her emotions down before she could finally pull herself back together.

But just as she handed the phone back to the crew,

She’d barely handed the phone back when a staff member came running over again. “Miss Anderson, you’ve got another call.”

Emily assumed Brandon had more to say, so she thanked the guy and took the phone.

The moment she spoke, her voice trembled with tears. “Brandon, is there something else?”

“Emily, why are you crying?” It wasn’t Brandon’s deep, commanding voice on the other end, but a boy’s. It sounded urgent, laced with unmistakable concern.

Emily blinked in surprise. “Eric?”

It was Eric calling her.

As soon as Eric heard Emily crying, he got all flustered. “Does your face still hurt? Did Whitney do something to you again when the cameras weren’t on? Tell me.

“Don’t cry, Emily. Hearing you cry breaks my heart.”

There was a brief silence on Eric’s end, followed by the sound of his heavier breathing. “But right now, you-”

“It’s okay,” Emily said, forcing herself to sound understanding. “She’s my sister, and I owe her anyway. Of course, she’d hate me. And it’s only natural that Brandon would take her side. If I have to take the hit, then so be it.”

“Sister? Bullshit. You’re the only real heiress of the Anderson family, Emily. Whitney is nothing compared to you,” Eric swore under his breath, his tone dripping with contempt. “And what do you owe her? If anything, she’s the one who owes you. “If she hadn’t come back, you wouldn’t have lost your confidence or your pride, and you wouldn’t be this upset right now. “She’s taken the life that was supposed to be yours. She owes you, not the other way around. How does she have the nerve to hate you? When she gets off that island, I’ll make sure she pays for it.”

Eric spoke through clenched teeth, his tone edged with something dangerously fierce.

Emily could almost hear the hint of something lethal beneath his words. A quick flash of satisfaction crossed her eyes. Suddenly, it hit Eric, and he raised his voice. “Hold on. What did you say? Is Brandon siding with Whitney?”

He recalled the way Emily had called out Brandon’s name earlier, her voice thick with tears.

He thought, ‘Wait a minute. Was Emily actually crying over Brandon, not Whitney?”

As if realizing she had said too much, Emily quickly covered her mouth and stammered, “l-it’s nothing.” “Emily, tell me.” Eric’s tone turned firm.

In the end, Emily had no choice but to “reluctantly” recount Brandon’s words, carefully twisting them as she went.

Eric gritted his teeth. “Fine. If Brandon won’t stand up for you, I will. And Joel is already ready to step in and turn public opinion in your favor.”

When Emily heard that Joel was stepping in, her eyes instantly sparkled with excitement. She thought, ‘That’s great. Joel is helping me, too.’

She knew exactly what Joel was capable of. Once he got involved, Whitn
