Chapter 281 Maya’s Preference
But his little sister was definitely an obedient kid.

“I’ll behave from now on, so don’t hit me with snow,” Maya said, letting out a sigh of relief when she saw he wasn’t mad at her. She giggled and hopped a few steps back.
She moved quickly, widening the distance in just a couple of bounds, kicking up flurries of snow like a rabbit in winter.
Wendy was getting a headache from watching the kids fool around.
Why do they have to play in the snow?
What’s so fun about hitting each other with snowballs?
After jumping away, Maya crouched down to keep working on the snowman with Alfred.
But halfway through, she got hit again by Toby, that petty little grudge–holder.
Maya stomped her feet in frustration.
Then, she suddenly froze.
She turned to look at the snowman they had built.
That huge, incredibly ugly snowman.
She walked up to it, wrapped her arms around the round snowball that was much bigger than her own head, and yanked it.
With a muffled crack, the snowman’s neck gave way, and she took its head right off.
Alfred stood there holding his shovel, staring in blank shock as Maya carried away the massive. snowman’s head.
Are we still building it?
We agreed to build a snowman together. Why did you take its head off?
His mind was full of question marks.
Meanwhile, Maya was already taking huge strides toward Toby with the giant snowball in her
arms.
She slammed it squarely and fiercely right into his face. “You like snowballs so much? Here’s an

extra–large one, just for you.”

Snow flew everywhere, covering Toby’s hair and face, with a good amount even slipping down
his collar.
“If everyone else gets one, you should get one, too.
“And yours is even bigger than George’s. How do you like that, Toby?”
Toby didn’t dodge. The impact pushed him back a step before he fell onto his back in the snow.
Snowflakes landed on his face, but his voice carried a faint, unmistakable hint of amusement. “Well, I’m honored.”
He had just wanted to play around with her.
They had not seen each other in a long time.
But the price for a little fun was a bit steep. He was lying in the snow, his hair damp, his clothes dusted white.
Toby really hated the feeling of being cold and wet.
“Man, she’s pretty bossy.” George burst out laughing when he heard her say, “Here’s an extra- large one, just for you.” He grabbed Maya, and the two of them went rolling around in the snow together.
Toby propped himself up on his elbows. Watching them roll around, he frowned. “George, if you keep rolling around with her like that, she’s going to catch a cold.”
Snow clung to his eyelashes, his expression cool and indifferent.
He looked breathtaking–a perfect blend of moonlight and snow.
Once George let her go, Maya scrambled up from the snow and glanced back.
His beauty hit her like a truck.
Covering her mouth, she muttered to herself, “I swear Toby’s face belongs in a museum.” George, curious, rested his chin on her head and nudged her. “You like his face that much?”
“Not really,” Maya answered honestly. “I like ugly guys.”
What?
The moment she said that, everyone who had been playing in the snow turned to look at her in

unison.
Edric sounded thoroughly confused. “Ugly guys?”
“Yeah.” Maya felt uncomfortable under all their stares. “Why are you all looking at me? Everyone has their own preferences. Respect my taste, okay?”
Silence.
Nobody said a word.

But their eyes clearly said, “We’re trying to respect your choice, but we just can’t,” and that cut deeper than any words could.
George had never known Maya liked ugly guys.
After thinking for a moment, with no regard for client privacy, he pulled out his phone.
He scrolled through a bunch of client photos. “Which type do you like? Show me.”
George had met all kinds of people. He wanted to see what Maya’s taste actually looked like.
Maya swiped through a few and instantly ruled out all those social–elite types.
In the end, she pointed at a man with an honest, plain appearance. “This kind. He looks super safe.”
Raymond had absolutely nothing special about him. He looked like a pitiful working–class guy who could collapse onto the ground at any second–completely harmless.
The man in the photo looked even simpler and more innocent.
A total goof.
Honest and harmless.
George glanced at the picture and mentally reviewed everything he knew about the man. Three seconds later, he shrieked like a cat that just had its tail stepped on, “Absolutely not, Maya!
“Do you even know what this guy is like? He’s married! On the side, he spends all his time with prostitutes, and his side chicks have to take a number just to wait in line. And you’re into a piece of trash like that?
“Maya, what are you going to do when you grow up? If you go out on your own, some scumbag is going to scam you and leave you broke and homeless.”

The more he thought about it, the more terrified he became. His grip tightened around his phone. He could already picture Maya getting played by some loser, sitting on a street corner crying her eyes out, and calling him miserably, “George, I’m out of money. That ugly guy promised he’d love me forever, but he took all my money…”
