Chapter 328 Call the Cops
Maya instinctively stepped back, trying to slip away the way she always did.
But the moment she turned, she realized there was nowhere to go. The space around her was packed shoulder to shoulder.
The boy walked over at an unhurried pace, reached out, and set a hand on her head. His fingers slid through her bright green hair, his voice flat.
“Been a while. Miss me?”
Maya froze.
Just kill me.
Alfred idly played with the soft strands, his dark eyes calm and empty.
“Maya, your hair,” he said, looking at her, his tone even but carrying a strange intimacy. “Why did you pick this color?”
Lucy’s eyelids twitched the second she saw him.
There was something about him that made people keep their distance without thinking.
Maya, on the other hand, leaned closer until the tips of her green mushroom cut nearly brushed his chest. “Looks good, right?” she said, suddenly bright. “You should dye yours too. We’ll surprise Grandpa together.”
She blinked, warming to the idea.
“Think about it. He’s spent his whole life playing it safe. He’s never seen anything this loud.”
Alfred dipped his head slightly, studying her. “If I go rainbow, would it work?”
Maya shot him a thumbs-up. “Do it. I support it.”
He rested a hand lightly on her head again, nudging her closer as he sized her up. A fafnt smile tugged at his lips. “You’ve grown.”
“Obviously.” Maya didn’t miss a beat. “You got taller. Why wouldn’t I?”
She flicked a glance at his height, then clenched her teeth. “One day, I’m cutting off every tall legs.”

Back when they were kids, they’d been about the same height. She hadn’t expected him to shoot

this.
It sounded like a normal reunion between siblings.
If not for the blood smeared across the underground corridor and the sharp tang of gunpowder in the air,

it might’ve even felt calm.
Set against the reality, it felt almost wrong.
Lucy stared at them, numb,
Ever since she met Maya, her brain had been taking hits nonstop.
First it was, Maya’s an assassin. Then it became, Maya’s brother is also an assassin.
And now… All assassins probably come from assassin families.
“Maya,” Lucy said, her voice tight, “he’s not your enemy too, right?”
In her world, do people call their own brothers enemies?

“No,” Maya answered immediately, grabbing Alfred’s arm and pulling him forward like she was showing him off. “He’s my brother. Not an enemy. I told you before, I don’t have a fourth enemy.”
Lucy let out a short, bitter laugh.
She thought dazedly, So he’s her brother.
I thought he was an assassin.
She felt like she’d aged years in the span of a minute. “By the way… your brother’s voice sounds really familiar.”
Maya’s brother…
Isn’t that the guy we’ve been gaming with for years? He’s really good at it too.
“You…” Lucy hesitated, then asked tentatively, “You’re Alfred Clark?”
She didn’t know Alfred nearly as well as she knew Maya. He barely talked in their chats and always came off cold.
The moment she spoke, Alfred recognized her.
He was good at filtering out useless information from what mattered.
For over seven years, Lucy and Chance had been filed away as nothing more than “online acquaintances.”
Unlike Maya, he’d never attached any meaning to their voices or identities despite knowing them for
years.
“Lucy” Alfred gave her a brief once-over. He pulled out a prepared gun, spun it once at his fingertips, his expression cooling. “Just you? Where’s Chance?”
If he hadn’t brought him up, both Maya and Lucy might’ve forgotten.
