Chapter 329 Caught

“Why are you two in such a hurry to run?”

Alfred held Maya’s hand as he walked ahead.

Wherever he went, people instinctively moved aside. Even those desperate to escape pressed themselves to the walls, clearing a path without being told.

When it came to parting a crowd, an assassin didn’t need to say a word.

Lucy glanced back at the Imperial Order intelligence operatives now packed tightly along the corridor, barely daring to breathe. The shift in their situation felt almost unreal.

“Because other factions are grabbing people,” Maya said, tugging Lucy along with her free hand. “I need to get

her out first.”

Alfred shot them a look, faint displeasure flickering across his face. His voice cooled. “The place is sealed. You’re not getting out.”

“I know.” Maya didn’t slow. “Still worth a try. You never know.”

Nothing was guaranteed.

You had to push, at least a little.

“Why didn’t you leave with them?” Alfred slowed and asked suddenly.

He didn’t understand.

By his calculations, getting Maya out should’ve been simple.

“Go with them?” Maya let out a tired breath. “You didn’t see how they looked at me back then. If I fell into their hands, those three would’ve teamed up and dragged me straight back to school.”

Are?

“Sorry,” Lucy cut in with a strained laugh, “can I ask who ‘they’ are?”

She stood off to the side, completely lost.

Whatever these two were talking about, she couldn’t follow it at all.

“They’re…” Maya started, about to say they were her enemies, when hurried footsteps echoed from ahead.

After being chased so many times, her body reacted first. The instant she heard movement, her steps faltered, ready to bolt.

Alfred didn’t move.

He stood there, quiet and still.

These people weren’t here for him. They were after someone else.

Lucy stud between them, catching the contrast. Maya tense and ready to run. Alfred completely at ease. The corner of her mouth moved. The moment she realized something was off, she instinctively tried to

move away.

There was nowhere to go. People pressed in behind them, more moving up from the front.

A team in ballistic vests and standard-issue rifles turned into the corridor.

Their uniforms were unmistakable.

The man in front held a photo. He glanced at it, then lifted his head, locking onto Lucy without hesitation. “Codename 707, Imperial Order Intelligence Unit, Lucy Harrington.”

The moment he spoke, two people behind him raised their rifles, muzzles angled down but ready.

Lucy went pale at the sight.

“Come with us.”

The middle-aged man’s tone was flat, procedural.

Lucy was a core member of the Imperial Order, an illegal intelligence network. Years inside meant she held more information than most.

They weren’t letting her walk away.

Lucy closed her eyes.

In that moment, her lashes trembled. She took a breath, let it out slowly, then raised her hands and dropped to her knees.

“I don’t know much,” she said, voice steady despite everything. “Whatever you need, I’ll tell you.”

Her voice was strangely calm at this moment.

When fear hit its limit, something in the mind just… shut off.

Maya’s hand was still half-raised, as if she were about to pull Lucy along.

Maya watched her friend kneel and didn’t move. Compared to Lucy’s caution, she and Alfred just standing there made them even more noticeable.

“You. Step forward.” The officer’s gaze shifted to Maya.

He couldn’t miss her.
