Chapter 343 Long Heard Of
“You’re wrong.”
Maya said it expressionlessly, raised her hand, and slammed a vicious punch into him, send him crashing to the ground.
Ernest fell silent.
She had put a lot of force behind that hit.
Ernest hit the floor and felt pain explode through his entire body. Even breathing hurt, and pain left him unable to speak.
Lying flat on his back, Ernest pulled at the corner of his mouth, forming a smile that looked somewhere between bitter amusement and self-mockery.
She had really come.
Sure, she had beaten him up.
But at least she had still come, hadn’t she?
“Alright, stop playing dead already, Ernest.” Seeing that he wasn’t moving, Maya spoke impatiently and quickly. “The floor’s cold. Get up already.”
Ernest lay on the ground and involuntarily closed his eyes.
He thought to himself.
You’re the one who almost beat me to death, and now you think we’re playing freeze tag?
Anyone hearing that would cough up blood on the spot.
What did she mean by stop playing dead?
“You’re really heartless, little assassin.” Ernest took a moment to recover before murmuring the words. His voice was hoarse, like sandpaper scraping against glass.
He turned his head. In those eyes that were usually calm no matter what happened, there was now a faint trace of something that almost looked wronged. “One punch from you nearly sent me to meet my great-grandma.”
“Is it really that serious?” Maya asked indifferently, tilting her head as she looked him over. “You can still talk, can’t you? That means you’re fine. Hurry up and get moving. You’re leaving with
me.”

Ernest let out a laugh.
He was genuinely stunned by her bizarre way of thinking.
What kind of logic was “if you can talk, then you’re fine”?
Did she seriously consider anything short of death to be a minor injury?
Ernest didn’t argue. His survival instincts had always been strong.
After spending so many years fighting his way through darkness, there wasn’t an injury he hadn’t suffered before.
He knew Maya’s patience had limits.
This little assassin was the type whose patience disappeared in the blink of an eye.
To avoid getting kicked across the room next, he braced himself against the wall and slowly stood up, one painful movement at a time.
His legs weren’t broken. He could still walk.
That was already the best news he had gotten all day.
“How did you get in here?” he asked, turning his head toward her. The question was still bothering him.
“I walked in,” Maya replied.
How else was she supposed to get in?
It wasn’t like she could fly.
“Is this organization secretly owned by your family or something?” Ernest paused mid-step. She had really just walked in?
“No.” Maya’s tone remained calm. “But obviously, the boss of this organization didn’t have any objections.”
“No objections?”
“Yep.” Maya started counting on her fingers. “If they had objections, they would’ve come out and stopped us. But so far, nobody’s shown up. Not a single person.”
She dragged out the words “single person,” her voice rising at the end with her trademark sense of pride.

Up to this point, everyone in the organization had committed fully to pretending they wer dead.
With instincts like that, it was no wonder they had become the local power players.
Ernest realized that the assassin’s thought process really wasn’t something ordinary people could understand.
He still wanted to ask more questions, like how she had found this place and how many peo were outside, but as soon as those thoughts surfaced, he pushed them back down.
It wasn’t until he followed Maya out of the basement that he saw just how many people were there.
The lights at the end of the hallway were much brighter than the basement lights, and much colder too.
Lucy stood beside Chance, one hand supporting his arm while the other rested in her pocke
Those two being here wasn’t surprising.
What he hadn’t expected was the several other people standing nearby.
Ernest stopped walking.
His gaze landed on Edric first.
Back when he had been gathering information, Ernest had considered the eldest son of the Clarks to be the ideal person to work with.
Unfortunately, getting a chance to meet him had proven nearly impossible.
Then his eyes shifted to George.
George leaned against the wall, casually playing with a knife. The blade spun between his fingers like a butterfly dancing through the air. With a cheerful smile, he said, “Hey, Ernest. You’re still alive?”
