Celestine glanced at Flossie.
She found Flossie giving her a look that was hard to put into words.
The woman was even holding Celestine’s pen.
In response to her question, the woman said flatly, “The boss told me to sit here.”
Celestine frowned.
Crystal had just left and hadn't mentioned anything about this.
Besides, what boss micromanaged employee seating arrangements?
“This is my desk, thank you. And please put down my pen; that’s mine too,” Celestine said in an equally flat tone, which made the woman look up at her.
The moment she did, her eyes reddened as if she’d suffered a great injustice.
Seeing this, Celestine felt a sense of déjà vu.
“What’s wrong?”
A slightly anxious male voice sounded from behind Celestine.
“Boss…” The woman saw her savior, her voice filled with grievance. “This lady said the desk is hers and told me to leave.”
Yolande stood up and walked over to Bagehot’s side.
She had long, alluring eyes, and when she was on the verge of tears, her innocent face was particularly captivating.
Flossie, annoyed, stood up to argue. “Celly didn’t tell you to leave. Why would you say that?”
Yolande bit her lip and said nothing.
A flash of sympathy crossed Bagehot’s eyes, and he was about to say something when he noticed Celestine standing by the desk.
His expression flickered. “Celly, so this desk was yours.”
Celestine noticed how closely the two were standing, well within what would be considered personal space, and nodded.
“Mr. Kelsey, who is this?”
It was originally prepared for this year’s interns, but HR was still in the process of recruiting, and they hadn’t started yet.
Yolande looked at Bagehot imploringly.
She didn’t like that high-traffic area by the entrance at all.
He said no one would bother her, which was a nice way of saying she’d be isolated.
Bagehot sighed and pulled Celestine aside to talk privately. “Celly, Yolande is new here and doesn’t know anyone. I promised her mom I’d take good care of her. She’s young and sometimes has trouble expressing herself, but she wants to fit in with everyone at Kismet Collective.”
He spoke with great sincerity, subtly explaining that he and Yolande had an uncle-niece relationship.
Celestine looked at him with some surprise.
The two of them didn't look that far apart in age; she hadn’t realized the generational gap was so wide.
The secret suspicion she'd just had was also dispelled.
“Celly, Yolande has always loved design and works very hard, but unfortunately, she lacked some opportunities and natural talent in France. I brought her here this time to let her experience the current market. If you have any free time, it would be great if you could give her a few pointers.”
