A flash of panic crossed the woman's face.
But she reacted quickly, stepping forward to snatch the medical report back and crumpling it into a ball. “I must have grabbed the wrong one! My sister is frail and gets sick often, so she’s always at the hospital! Or maybe the hospital’s printer was malfunctioning! Anyway, stop changing the subject and explain this defective dress!”
She deliberately steered the conversation back to the original issue.
“Yeah, she could have just grabbed the wrong paper. The dress right here is hard evidence.”
“I can’t believe Velvet Noir would do something like this. I’m glad I never bought anything from their store.”
The onlookers were swayed, and their murmurs of criticism started up again.
Yolande tugged on Celestine’s sleeve and whispered, “Celly, if this gets any worse, just apologize and offer some compensation. The fans will forgive and understand us.”
“Even if I apologize, it won’t be to them,” Celestine said coldly, pulling her arm away.
A flicker of contempt crossed Yolande’s face.
What a pointless display of integrity!
This store probably wouldn’t even survive until tomorrow before being shut down!
Their exchange, however, caused an uproar online.
[What do you mean, ‘the fans will forgive us’?! Are they treating us consumers like a bunch of suckers?]
[I don’t even know what to say about these two!]
[Boycott Velvet Noir! Boycott Velvet Noir! Boycott Velvet Noir!]
…
Celestine walked straight to the display cabinet, took out the dress she had just used for the demonstration and the problematic one, then grabbed a pair of scissors from a tool drawer.
The woman became defensive. “What?! Are you trying to destroy the evidence?!”
Celestine ignored her, turning the dress inside out to reveal the care tag.
“Celestine, oh Celestine, you finally got what you deserve! Crushing you is as easy as squashing an ant!” Jade laughed so hard that tears started to form in her eyes.
She had specifically hired these two women, professional counterfeiters who specialized in knocking off designer clothes and selling them online for cheap.
She had only spent a four-figure sum, and the two women had delivered such a delightful surprise.
Jade’s lips curled into a smirk as she stared at Celestine on the screen, holding the scissors. Her eyes were filled with venom.
The insults from the crowd in the store grew uglier.
Kelley was so overwhelmed she started to cry.
Flossie tried to explain, but it only made things worse, failing to quell the public’s fury.
Sensing the situation was spiraling, Yolande quietly slipped out of the store.
The woman threatened, “You’d better apologize now, Celestine! I don’t have all day to waste with you! If you keep stalling, I can’t guarantee what might happen to your store!”
