Thorns Grow After Betrayal (Celeste and Chester) novel Chapter 341

Gideon glanced at her serious little face, her eyebrows furrowed in concentration, and turned his head to hide a smile.

Cynthia, however, was still struggling with all her might. “Gideon, you have no morals! You’re a bad man! You’re shameless! Let me go!”

Cynthia had just started kindergarten, so her vocabulary was still limited.

She was using just about every insult she knew.

“Thank you for the compliments.” Gideon was in a good mood and not the least bit annoyed.

Celestine couldn’t help but laugh.

The uncle and niece were quite a pair.

Once they reached the apartment building, Gideon finally put Cynthia down.

Cynthia immediately scrambled over to Celestine’s side, glaring warily at Gideon.

“Celestine! My uncle is a big, bad man! We have to stay away from him! Let’s walk faster!”

Gideon was still at the entrance, closing the umbrella.

Cynthia grabbed Celestine’s hand and hurried into the elevator.

Celestine had no choice but to smile and go upstairs with her.

She really was just a child.

She was treating this shared elevator ride with the same gravity as going to the restroom together at school.

But an adult wouldn’t be sad just because someone didn't wait for him to get on the elevator.

In the Maybach, Vernon was about to head home.

Suddenly, he received an unexpected call from Gideon, telling him to work overtime.

He asked in a trembling voice, “Why?”

“She didn’t wait for me to go up with her.”

In that moment, Vernon heard the coldest, most heartless voice in the world.

As soon as the call ended, he slumped over the steering wheel and burst into tears.

Why, Celestine! Why couldn’t you have waited for him to go upstairs!

Inside the apartment building, Celestine was holding Cynthia’s small hand as they stepped out of the elevator when she suddenly sneezed.

Cynthia immediately chirped, “Celestine, someone’s thinking about you!”

“One more step and I’ll use this.”

As soon as she spoke, the grimy figure suddenly dropped to his knees with a thud in front of Celestine and wailed, “Mom, it’s me!”

The sound of that familiar voice made the blood in Celestine’s veins run cold.

She stared in disbelief at the child before her, who was dirtier and grimier than any homeless person or beggar.

His clothes were in tatters, his hair was messier than a bird’s nest, and he even gave off a foul odor.

Celestine managed to choke out, “Are you… Raymond Fordham?”

Raymond nodded emphatically, crying so hard he could barely breathe.

“Mom, I finally found you!”

With that, he tried to lunge at Celestine again.

Cynthia let out a terrified shriek. “Ah!”

Celestine instinctively used the broom to keep Raymond at a safe distance of a few feet.

Raymond looked hurt. “Mom, are you disgusted by me?”
