Besides, Mr. Thorne wasn't even giving you the cold shoulder just now. You'll see what I mean once you've been here a bit longer.
As for anything else, Arthur couldn't offer much help, primarily because he couldn't read the man either.
After the meeting wrapped up, the project officially launched. Willow didn't make any personnel changes to the team Merit had assigned to her; she simply did a final review. Then, she delegated tasks according to the project's requirements.
Aside from the internal prep work, the most critical task at hand was finalizing the supplier roster.
She handed this responsibility to a manager named Clarence Vance. She had reviewed his resume; although he had just joined Merit this year, he had an extensive work history. He had spent his entire career in New York City and boasted significant experience in supplier management.
That evening, Jade finally managed to get off work on time. The two women ordered takeout and chatted over dinner.
"I didn't get a chance to ask you yesterday, but did you meet Merit's big boss? Well? Is he hot?"
Jade dropped the bombshell question right out of the gate, nearly causing Willow to choke on her food.
She quickly took a sip of water, automatically skipping over the embarrassing misunderstanding where she had previously mistaken Arthur for the boss. "I saw him. He's pretty handsome."
"I knew it!" Jade looked incredibly smug. "Got a picture? Let me see."
Willow shook her head. "No. We were in a meeting the whole time, how would I have time to sneak a picture?"
"Fair enough, just snap one when you get the chance," Jade pressed on. "By the way, what's he like? Is he really as ruthless and unapproachable as the rumors say? A real Cold King?"
