Three Years Forgotten, Why Go Crazy When I Say Goodbye? novel Chapter 146

Brenda sighed heavily. "A huge problem."

Jade took a step forward, her heart racing. "What kind of problem? Did something happen to my friend?"

"Not exactly. But this case is far more complicated than it looks, and you need to brace yourself," Brenda warned, her tone filled with genuine pity. "Upper management just handed down a mandate. No one is allowed to touch this case."

"Why?" Jade was completely baffled. "It's a straightforward divorce. There are no ethical conflicts, and it doesn't pose any legal liabilities for the firm. Why would management care?"

"I don't have all the details, the notice just came down," Brenda said, lowering her voice and leaning over her desk. "But I'll give it to you straight. The board issued an ultimatum: whoever takes this case is fired. They were ready to terminate you today. I had to fight tooth and nail just to keep you on the payroll. You need to drop this immediately."

Jade didn't doubt her mentor's words for a second; Brenda had always been totally transparent with her. But it made absolutely zero sense for a corporate law firm to intervene in a low-profile divorce. There was no money, fame, or leverage involved. It was a complete waste of their resources.

"Brenda, do you have any idea why the firm is so desperate to drop this?"

Brenda shook her head grimly. "Word is, it's not just our firm. The warning went out across the entire industry. No one in the city is allowed to touch this case. Think about it. Did your friend cross a massive player?"

She continued, "I wouldn't lie to you, Jade. You have to prioritize your career right now. Drop the case, put it on hold, and figure it out later when the dust settles."

Jade fully grasped the severity of the situation. But Willow's fight was her fight. She was never going to throw her to the wolves.
