Why?
"Wasn't it because of the Yates family's strong track record in maritime logistics?"
Silas offered a faint smile. "There are plenty of companies with strong track records. Merit's logistics division is already highly efficient. Truthfully, we didn't need to partner with anyone."
"Then was it to aggressively expand Merit's logistics footprint in New York?" Willow offered. "Since your primary operations are in Seattle and overseas."
Silas shook his head. "Merit's operations are incredibly stable. We don't need forced expansion. And even if we did, an inland city wouldn't be our first choice."
"Then why?" Willow was completely out of ideas. In her mind, an apex predator like Silas Thorne made every single move based on corporate dominance and profit margins.
Silas didn't push. His voice was a low, encouraging murmur. "Think a little harder."
"All your reasons point to corporate strategy. Maybe... try looking at it from a different angle."
"A different angle?" Willow blurted out, genuinely confused.
Silas couldn't help but laugh softly. Even without taking his eyes off the road, he could picture her expression—wide-eyed, blinking in total bewilderment.
A sudden wave of warmth rushed through him. He gently nudged her in the right direction. "Exactly. Try looking at it from a personal angle."
That sparked something. "Wait, did you already know Eugene?"
"No. Never met the man."
"Jade, then?"
Silas sighed, a hint of amusement in his voice. "Until you mentioned her, I had no idea Eugene Yates even had a daughter."
