Three Years Forgotten, Why Go Crazy When I Say Goodbye? novel Chapter 207

Julian chuckled. "What's wrong with that? Toby is my son, and you're his mother. Caring for you because of him makes perfect sense."

"No, it doesn't. You should care about me first, and then Toby."

"Is there a difference?"

"Of course there is," she pushed, carefully testing the waters. "If you cared about me first, you'd love any child of mine. But if you only care about Toby, then if one day he wasn't yours, you'd drop us both in a heartbeat."

"That day will never come."

Julian's expression had already begun to darken, but tucked against his chest, Vivienne couldn't see it.

She kept pushing. "I'm just speaking hypothetically. If that day ever did come..."

"Vivienne," Julian interrupted, his voice dropping to a dangerous register. "You know how protective I am of Toby. Don't ever bring this up again. I don't want to hear jokes like this."

A cold sweat broke out on Vivienne's back. She had completely forgotten that Julian's obsession with his heir was absolute. Masking her terror, she forced a lighthearted laugh.

"I know, I know. Toby is my dearest son too. I won't joke about it anymore."

Retreating to a secluded corner of the building, she dialed an international number she hadn't called in a long time.

A man answered in English, sounding pleasantly surprised. "Honey! Long time no see. Did you miss me?"

Vivienne had no time for his flirting. "Marcus, that secret you helped me bury back then—is it completely airtight? Is there any way it could be traced?"

Marcus dropped the playful tone instantly. "It's foolproof. Why? Has something happened?"

"Things are getting complicated," she whispered frantically. "Just be on high alert. Someone might start digging into it soon."
