Willow never expected that to be the reason. He did it all for a woman.
No wonder rumors always claimed he was entirely immune to female charm and stayed far away from romance. It wasn't that he had any issues; it was simply that his heart was already occupied by someone else.
It seemed you really couldn't trust the rumor mill.
Willow couldn't quite put her finger on how she felt at that moment. She was definitely surprised to stumble upon her boss's deepest secret. But that surprise was quickly eclipsed by an inexplicable wave of disappointment.
It was a sensation she had never experienced before, so she brushed it off, attributing the strange hollow feeling in her chest to the sheer shock of the revelation.
After all, it was a pretty explosive piece of gossip.
After dropping the bombshell, Silas kept a close eye on her reaction. But perhaps due to the dim lighting or something else, her emotional response seemed incredibly muted. Did that mean she truly felt nothing for him?
Feeling a twinge of dissatisfaction, he pressed on. "I just don't know how much longer I have to wait, especially at my age."
Willow gathered her composure and offered an encouraging smile. "You probably won't have to wait much longer. You moved all the way to New York just for her. I'm sure things will work out for you soon."
The more supportive she acted, the more Silas wanted to test her limits. "Oh, right, I forgot to mention. She's married. She has a husband. Knowing that, do you still think I have a chance?"
"What?" Willow was genuinely stunned. She could excuse everything else as his private business, but this was completely beyond her comprehension. Why would a man with his extraordinary background willingly chase a married woman? And why on earth was he telling her this?
