Three Years Forgotten, Why Go Crazy When I Say Goodbye? novel Chapter 236

She cried silently, her shoulders barely moving. With her eyes cast down, her long eyelashes fluttered softly as crystal-clear tears continuously slipped down her cheeks, the tip of her nose turning a delicate shade of pink.

Silas could guess why the tears were falling. After surviving such an agonizing ordeal, the emotional dam keeping her afloat had finally broken. No matter how strong she tried to be, she was still just a young woman in her twenties carrying the weight of the world.

His heart ached for her, but he didn't dare cross the line. He gently reached out and gave her hair a reassuring pat. "Don't worry. It's going to be okay. The hardest part is over."

The doctor had tactfully slipped out of the room the moment she started crying, but Willow still felt a wave of embarrassment wash over her. This was the second time she had completely lost her composure in front of him today.

"I'm sorry. I must look like a mess."

How could Silas ever think that? He was too busy wanting to pull her into his arms. "I would never think that. You don't have to hide anything around me."

If he were to name the emotion tearing through him at that very second, it would be sheer regret, trailing right behind the heartache. Regret that he had arrived in her life too late. Regret that he hadn't been there to stand beside her, leaving her to face the storm all alone. But that was okay. From now on, she would never have to be alone again.

Willow didn't read too much into his words, assuming it was simply the kind reassurance of a compassionate boss. Given that he had just confessed to having someone he deeply loved, she was even less likely to interpret it as anything romantic.

They stayed in the hospital room a little longer. By the time they finally left, the sky was already beginning to lighten with the dawn. Silas drove Willow home. Just as he was about to turn his car around to head back, he received a video call from his grandmother. Thinking nothing of it, he answered.

He initially assumed it was an emergency, his expression tight with concern. But the very first sentence out of her mouth made him freeze in absolute mortification.

"Cy, your mother tells me you finally got a girlfriend! And that she's absolutely gorgeous! When are you bringing her home to meet your dear old grandmother?"

"How is it nonsense?" Beatrice challenged. "Do you not like the girl?"

Silas couldn't argue with that.

"Do you not want to marry her?"

Silas paused, once again finding himself utterly defenseless against the question.

"Do you not want to cherish her, take care of her, and spend the rest of your life with her?"
