Meanwhile, Clarence slept straight through to the afternoon. Having received no angry calls from P&C, his arrogance swelled. In his mind, he tore Willow down all over again. She was just a pretty face who slept her way to the top—she didn't deserve to go toe-to-toe with him.
He had deliberately unleashed that rant on the phone just to humiliate her, showing complete and utter contempt for her authority. And what was the result? She hadn't done a damn thing. She hadn't dared to retaliate. At least she was smart enough to know who really ran the department.
After freshening up, Clarence didn't even bother going to the office. He caught a cab straight to a nearby café. Pushing open the door, he spotted Vivienne Sinclair already waiting inside.
The moment he saw her, all his previous bravado evaporated. He instantly transformed into a submissive lackey, shrinking into himself. After all, a single kickback from her was worth more than his entire annual salary.
"Ms. Sinclair, I didn't expect you to arrive so early. I hit some traffic on the way, my apologies."
Vivienne sat with a wide-brimmed hat and oversized sunglasses, completely hiding her face. She didn't bother taking them off, nor did she even look at him. Her voice dripped with disgust. "Be earlier next time. I hate waiting."
"Yes, of course. I promise I'll be early next time."
"Do you have the items?" Vivienne demanded, skipping the pleasantries.
"Yes, right here." Clarence quickly fished a flash drive from his pocket and slid it across the table. "Everything you asked for is on here."
Vivienne had her laptop ready. She plugged in the drive and quickly skimmed the contents.
It was exactly what she had ordered. The files contained detailed, methodical records of several critical errors allegedly made by Willow. Times, dates, intricate details, and supporting evidence were all laid out perfectly. It was a flawless, airtight case.
"It might take a little time. I need to wait for the right opportunity."
"I don't have time to wait," Vivienne snapped, shooting down the idea instantly. "What's the absolute earliest you can do this?"
"Well, that's..."
"Pull this off, and I'll increase your payout by fifty percent."
At the mention of money, Clarence's eyes lit up with renewed vigor. "Consider it done. I'll head back and figure it out right now. I guarantee I'll have her fired as fast as humanly possible!"
