Three Years Forgotten, Why Go Crazy When I Say Goodbye? novel Chapter 278

The phone rang relentlessly. Just as it was about to go to voicemail, Vivienne finally answered, "Hello."

Clarence clearly hadn't expected her to actually pick up. Hearing her voice, he was thrown off balance for a moment. After a long pause, he practically vibrated with excitement. "Thank God. You finally answered my call."

Vivienne had always possessed a vicious tongue, and she was especially ruthless when dealing with people who were useless to her and required no polite facade.

Hearing his pathetic relief, she scoffed mercilessly. "I'm the one who answered the phone, so why are you thanking God? If you're going to thank someone, thank me."

Clarence was so used to being verbally battered by her that he didn't even register the insult. Instead, he forced a greasy, accommodating laugh. "Yes, of course, you're absolutely right. I should be thanking you. I've been calling non-stop, and you finally picked up."

"So, you're complaining that I've been ignoring your calls?" Vivienne immediately went on the offensive. She knew exactly why Clarence was calling, and she needed to establish dominance before he could even state his demands.

But her temper wasn't entirely unwarranted. The mess he had made of their last operation hadn't just failed to take down Willow—it had nearly dragged Vivienne down with him. There was no way she was going to play nice.

More importantly, Clarence had completely outlived his usefulness. She just wanted him gone.

"No, no, of course not. I wouldn't dare," Clarence groveled. Even though he had the leverage, he still instinctively cowered in her presence. "I know how busy you are. It's my fault for not checking your schedule before calling. I didn't mean to interrupt your day."

Satisfied that she had sufficiently broken his spirit, Vivienne dialed back the venom just a fraction. Feigning ignorance, she demanded, "What do you want? Spit it out."
