Only after Willow left did Silas finally answer the phone.
The moment the call connected, Jocelyn's gentle voice floated through the receiver. "Cy, what took you so long to pick up?"
"I was caught up with work. What's going on?"
Perhaps because she had been pampered her entire life, Jocelyn possessed an innocent, almost childlike demeanor, complete with a wonderful temper. In contrast, Silas often felt like the mature, steady adult in their dynamic.
"Nothing major. I just heard you were back in Seattle, so I thought I'd call."
It wasn't hard to guess who she had "heard" it from. Arthur Vance was not only Silas's executive assistant but also heavily involved in the Thorne family's daily affairs.
Silas didn't bother hiding it. "Yeah, I arrived today for a business trip."
Jocelyn immediately pressed, "If you're in Seattle, why didn't you come home? Your father and I miss you terribly, and your grandparents ask about you every single day."
Silas already had a timeline in mind. "I'll head home once my work is wrapped up. I'll let you know beforehand."
"When will you be done?"
"Probably in three or four days." The truth was, his work would be finished by tomorrow, but he wanted to carve out a few extra days to show Willow around the city, so he deliberately extended the timeframe.
