When they arrived, the couple was helping their child with physical therapy.
Because of his illness, the boy's small frame was hunched over, unable to stand up straight. Every step was agonizingly slow and difficult. His limbs trembled slightly, revealing his suppressed pain. Even the simple act of standing and walking was pure torture for him.
Yet, the couple showed no signs of impatience. Garrett bent down to protect his son's side, while his wife crouched in front of him, gently guiding his steps with eyes full of tender heartache.
As he turned, Ethan suddenly caught sight of Vivienne and her entourage at the door. His face drained of color. Trembling violently, he instinctively shrank back, pressing himself into his father's chest.
The couple immediately looked toward the door. Spotting Vivienne's group, they didn't say a word. Garrett shielded Ethan, turned back into the house, and slammed the door shut, locking Vivienne and her people out.
The group outside shifted uncomfortably. The atmosphere instantly froze.
Only Vivienne remained perfectly still, showing not a trace of embarrassment or guilt. Instead, a cold, arrogant smirk tugged at the corners of her lips. She looked at the closed door with an insufferable sense of superiority.
She had already figured this family out. In her narrow, selfish worldview, all resistance and coldness simply boiled down to greed. She was absolutely certain that their fierce rejection yesterday and their shut door today wasn't about being disturbed. They were just playing hard to get to drive up the price.
The colder and more distant they acted, the more money they wanted. They were just waiting for her to wave cash in their faces.
