Three Years Forgotten, Why Go Crazy When I Say Goodbye? novel Chapter 475

She suddenly felt terribly guilty toward Leo. He hadn't been in New York City for long, and he was already caught up in this mess. It was incredibly bad luck on his part.

"I'm so sorry. I dragged you into this. Vivienne has been targeting me from the start; all of this resentment was meant for me alone." The more she spoke, the more the guilt gnawed at her. "You left your hometown to come to New York City, worked your ass off, and haven't even gotten to enjoy any stability or perks yet. Instead, you're dragged into this death trap because of me. I really am sorry."

That was just how Willow was. If she were suffering alone, she could handle it. But the moment someone else got caught in the crossfire—especially someone she cared about—the guilt ate her alive.

But Leo didn't see it that way at all. "Boss, stop right there. Don't put this on yourself. You didn't do a damn thing wrong. Vivienne is the one who's twisted and psychotic. This is her sick vendetta, not your burden to bear."

"Besides, I chose to come to New York City. Given the mess I was in back then, if you hadn't taken me in, I probably wouldn't even have a roof over my head right now."

Mentioning Vivienne brought a flare of hatred to Leo's voice. "When we get out of here, I swear I'm going to make her pay."

They exchanged a few more words of encouragement before fatigue set in. To conserve their energy, they lapsed into a quiet silence.

In that silence, Willow's thoughts drifted far away. This time, they landed on Silas.

Normally, at this hour, they would already be on a video call. But given her current predicament, that call was definitely not happening.

She couldn't help but wonder what he was doing right now. Had he realized she was missing? Or was he still buried under a mountain of paperwork, completely unaware that she had gone off the grid?
