Leo's jaw practically hit the floor.
That actually worked?
He legitimately wondered if Willow had secretly starred in some hardcore wilderness survival reality show.
But before he could ask, both of them froze, utterly paralyzed by the scene unfolding before them.
Deep inside the sealed abyss of the cave, the layers of rock had blocked out everything. They had been completely oblivious to the chaos outside. But now, standing on the open ridge, an overwhelming ocean of light flooded their vision, so blindingly bright they had to shield their eyes.
Beneath the heavy night sky, the entire sprawling mountain range was illuminated by countless high-intensity searchlights. Brilliant beams crisscrossed, violently tearing apart the darkness.
A massive swarm of search drones hovered in the air, locked in rigid tactical formations. Their blinking signal lights wove together, creating a breathtaking sea of stars against the blackness.
Heavy rescue machinery and mobile floodlights lined the winding mountain paths, forming a glowing perimeter...
This wasn't a search; this was a carpet-bombing rescue operation that completely shattered the definition of standard emergency response. It certainly shattered Willow and Leo's comprehension.
Leo stared in a trance, his pupils trembling. It took him a long time to find his voice, which came out as a bewildered whisper. "Is... is all this for us?"
Willow gazed at the staggering grid of lights and the endless fleet above. She was equally stunned, but her mind remained sharp. "I think so."
Out here in the middle of nowhere, in the dead of night, no one would mobilize this kind of apocalyptic manpower and astronomical budget unless they were specifically looking for them.
