Silas smiled. She knew exactly what she was doing.
That was good. It meant his efforts hadn't been in vain.
The topic shifted quickly. They never had a habit of discussing other people during meals anyway, and it had just come up in passing. Soon enough, the conversation circled back to Willow.
Silas looked at her. "What are your plans now? Do you want to pause your current projects and take a proper break for a while?"
He knew better than anyone just how much of a toll the Appalachian trip had taken on her, and he felt the ache of it in his own chest. Her injuries hadn't fully healed either. Even though they were hidden, he noticed every flinch whenever it was time to apply her ointment.
Working hard and chasing her dreams was fine—he would never hold her back—but it all had to be built on the foundation of her physical health.
To his surprise, Willow shook her head. "No, I've been busy with Ethan's case recently. We still had a lot of follow-up records and nursing files left pending when we left. The team has been sending me the data over the past few days, and I need to verify and organize everything."
"If I wrap up these loose ends early, it'll be easier to track his recovery. I just want to help him as much as I can."
Silas frowned the moment he heard that. "That’s the People & Culture Department and R&D’s job, not yours. It seems Arthur hasn't been delegating properly. I'll have another word with him later."
Sensing his darkening mood, Willow quickly set down her fork and explained in a soft, soothing tone. "I haven't spent that much time on it. I just take a little time each day to review everyone's summaries and check the details. It really doesn't take much effort."
