Two days later, Vivienne received a message from Jayden Chase. It contained a link to a site called GeneEdit Nexus, along with a dense file of information regarding "WH."
She masked her casual demeanor instantly, her gaze sharpening. Without hesitation, her fingers flew across the screen, taking screenshots and archiving the data. She dialed a number, her voice flat and strictly professional. "Look into a website called GeneEdit Nexus. I need a deep dive into its academic circles, anonymous posting rules, and absolutely every digital footprint left by the user WH. The more detailed, the better. Get it to me ASAP."
Hanging up, a satisfied smirk played on her lips. She had expected this to take weeks; she hadn't realized Jayden actually knew what he was doing.
She had no intention of replying to him. That was simply how she operated—extracting what she needed and never wasting an ounce of energy on useless pleasantries.
But the moment she set her phone down, the screen lit up with a barrage of notifications.
Jayden had dropped his professional facade. The screen was flooded with crude, explicit text messages. They were laced with naked propositions, disgusting flirtations, and a forced, sickening intimacy that made her skin crawl.
Vivienne stiffened, a layer of cold disgust settling over her eyes. She hadn't even bothered to thank him for the crucial intel, and now these vile messages weren't even worth a second glance.
She locked the screen with an impassive expression, tossed the phone onto the desk, and ignored it entirely.
She assumed her icy silence would force him to take a hint. She was wrong. A second later, her ringtone shattered the quiet.
Vivienne glanced at the caller ID and rejected it without a second thought.
