Three Years Forgotten, Why Go Crazy When I Say Goodbye? novel Chapter 562

Hearing those words, Silas Thorne's footsteps faltered for a fraction of a second—a hesitation so brief it was nearly imperceptible.

Usually a man of icy self-control who never let his emotions show, a faint flicker of gloom and panic flashed through his deep, predatory gaze.

Julian Sinclair was right. He truly didn't know, and he didn't dare to ask.

His only weakness—the one thing he was afraid to touch, test, or question—was Willow Horgan's heart.

He was terrified that the answer wouldn't be what he desperately wanted to hear. He feared pushing her away and ruining the fragile bond they currently shared.

Silas continued walking. His pace remained steady, but an invisible weight now settled over his every step.

Downstairs, Willow and Martha Mercer were waiting for him in the car.

Silas slid into the driver's seat, the earlier shadows in his eyes completely erased, replaced by his usual calm demeanor. He glanced at the two women beside him, his voice gentle and soothing. "It's alright now. Everything has been handled. He won't bother you again."

Both Willow and Martha thanked him.

He didn't elaborate on the bitter confrontation that had just unfolded in the hospital room, brushing over the conflict with a few light words. Still, Willow caught the subtle shift in his mood.

But with Martha present, Willow didn't press the issue, not wanting to upset her mother. It wasn't until they were getting out of the car that she softly asked Silas if the conversation with Julian had gone poorly.

"It was fine," Silas replied, reaching out to help her carry their things. It was then that Willow noticed his hand.

Across his long, elegant knuckles was a fresh, angry scrape. The raw, reddened skin stood out starkly against his luminous complexion, faintly beaded with blood.
