Her gaze hardened, playing the perfect victim. "I know my research process is flawless and entirely authentic. A live experiment today is the perfect opportunity to wash away these baseless smears and clear my name."
Hearing this, the heavy atmosphere of doubt in the room eased slightly as everyone settled in for the highly anticipated showdown.
Mr. Smith raised his microphone. "Since neither party objects, the live challenge will commence immediately."
Having a man of his stature act as the arbiter of the challenge lent the event absolute credibility.
Quickly, the exclusive sterile laboratory on the side of the hall was activated. High-definition cameras were set up for a 360-degree, zero-blind-spot broadcast, feeding directly to the giant screen in the room and the global livestream. Every microscopic movement and data point would be completely exposed.
"Please step into the lab area," Mr. Smith instructed.
Willow stepped forward smoothly, her pace steady as she led the way to the sterile lab.
She had remained completely serene this entire time. From the initial explosion of controversy, to the murmurs, to the final agreement of the challenge, not a single trace of panic had crossed her face. She looked as though she were merely walking into a routine daily lab session, not a high-stakes battle for her entire reputation.
Vivienne, on the other hand, wasn't nearly as relaxed. Forced to follow, her legs felt like lead. Her steps were stiff and heavy, and cold sweat dripped down her spine.
One after the other, they entered the lab and stood at their respective workstations. The equipment, reagents, and materials were perfectly identical, guaranteeing absolute fairness.
