She had just handled corrosive experimental reagents and dismantled lab equipment in front of an entire crowd. Even though she insisted she was fine, Silas couldn't rest easy. He was terrified she might have missed a spot and burned herself.

"Did any of the reagents splash on your skin?" he asked, his eyes still scanning her hands. "Did you scrape yourself on the equipment? Tell me immediately if anything hurts."

Willow shook her head. Meeting the lingering heavy concern in his eyes, she offered a soft, reassuring smile. "I'm really okay. I wore full protective gear, so I didn't get a single scratch."

Silas still wasn't convinced. He thoroughly checked both of her hands and every inch of her exposed skin. Only when he was absolutely certain there wasn't a trace of redness, scratches, or chemical burns did the suffocating tension in his chest finally dissipate.

The next second, he pulled Willow into a tight, desperate embrace. His arms banded around her as if trying to merge her into his very being. "You scared me to death out there," he murmured against her ear. "If you ever face something this dangerous and complicated again, you have to tell me immediately."
