Nana wanted to keep quiet, but she knew she didn’t have a choice anymore. She was in too deep to back out now, and all she could think about was protecting her family from getting dragged into this mess.
She regretted helping Hannah go after Bonnie online, acting without thinking things through. At the time, it felt harmless, definitely not something that would end up catching the attention of the police, let alone The Lane Family. Even when it looked like things might get serious, Hannah made it sound like there was nothing to worry about.
Bonnie was always seen as an outsider, and in their world, family always came first. That made Nana feel safe, like she could do what she wanted without any real consequences.
So she went through with it. Nana reached out to a friend overseas, who set her up with Penn. This guy knew exactly what he was doing. Once you paid him, he took care of everything. He promised the police would never be able to find him. Even if someone got caught, it would be another member of his group. Maybe a random girl, maybe a homeless person, maybe someone old. There were so many layers and distractions that the police, especially with their limitations, would never be able to tie anything back to Penn.
And if they couldn’t find Penn, they couldn’t find Nana either. She figured she was safe, so she handed it all off to Penn and tried not to think about it.
But then everything slipped out of her control. Nana never guessed Hannah would try to make such a big splash for her comeback, buying herself a trending topic and shining a glaring spotlight on Bonnie, dragging her from the shadows onto center stage for everyone to see. The whole thing exploded, and Penn just kept stirring things up, making the drama bigger and bigger until it was all completely out of hand.
That’s when Nana started to get scared, especially when Penn said someone from the inside had started getting involved, someone with real power. Nana had this instinctive feeling it had to be Lawrence. Who else would bother going to such lengths for Bonnie?
She was right. Lawrence shut down the trending stories, then flew all the way to America himself, digging through every lead until he finally figured out who Penn really was. Then, with zero hesitation, he demanded that Nana and Hannah confess to everything.
