Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 257

Bonnie glanced up, realizing he was staring down at her. Even through his dark goggles, it felt like they were making direct eye contact. Her eyelashes fluttered briefly before she looked away.

To ease the sudden tension, she said, "It's the powder here. It's so smooth. If I ever get the chance, I'd definitely come back."

Lawrence murmured his agreement. Silence fell between them, rendering them exactly what they appeared to be: two strangers crossing paths on a trip.

But once upon a time, they used to share everything.

Lawrence took a slow breath, terrified that saying too much would give him away. Thankfully, Victor pulled up shortly after.

Victor loaded their bags into the trunk. Having not seen them for a few days, he assumed the two travelers would have bonded by now. But as they climbed into the car, the silence was deafening.

Victor quietly turned on the radio and started the drive toward Silvania.

They made a few stops along the way, the scenery blending into a continuous snowy expanse. An hour and a half later, they reached the scenic area. Their first stop was right at the entrance of Silvania—a rushing river of crystal-clear emerald water, cloaked in a thin, dreamlike mist.

Bonnie let out an involuntary gasp of awe, eager to head down and snap some pictures.

Victor parked the car and offered a warning. "It's winter, so the water levels are low, but the current is still moving fast under the ice. When the ice builds up, it dams the river. Once the pressure gets too high, it bursts through and floods the banks. Don't cross the caution tape. Just take your photos from the upper bank."

Bonnie peered down at the river. It wasn't exactly at flood stage, but the water was slamming against the ice at an alarming speed. Despite the caution tape cordoning off the banks, plenty of tourists were standing right at the edge taking selfies.

It looked incredibly dangerous.

His anxiety spiked. He sprinted against the surging tide of fleeing tourists, no longer caring about his cover, and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Bonnie!"

There was no answer. Fear gripped his throat. In the frantic rush, his hands trembled harder, and a sharp, piercing pain flared up in his leg. Then, he noticed a commotion near the water's edge.

Someone shrieked, "Help! A girl fell in!"

Lawrence stumbled forward. He caught sight of a flash of bright yellow thrashing in the churning water. Without a second thought, he slid down the steep embankment and dashed to the shoreline. As he got close enough to see the figure clearly, he froze for a split second. The bitter, bone-chilling cold of the alpine water radiated off the river, biting at his skin even from the bank.

But he didn't hesitate. He dove straight in.
