After that incident, they hadn't dared to confront Bonnie directly. Instead, they resorted to spreading malicious rumors and terrorizing anyone who tried to befriend her.
Over time, people decided it wasn't worth the drama, and Bonnie became virtually invisible to her peers.
Abby and Bridget had always suspected that all these educators were part of some inner circle. Now that this guy had casually named Trinity Academy's principal, they were terrified he actually had the connections to ruin them.
They hated school, but they were terrified of crossing their parents. Their grades were already abysmal, and they had barely scraped their way into high school. If their parents found out about this, there would be hell to pay.
Their expressions crumpled awkwardly, and they didn't dare say another word.
They exchanged a panicked look and turned to leave, but Lawrence's voice stopped them cold.
"Apologize," he demanded.
Abby gritted her teeth, utterly humiliated, but looking at his fierce expression, she mumbled a hasty "sorry" before grabbing Bridget and sprinting away.
Lawrence frowned, entirely unsatisfied. He was about to chase after them when a hand gently caught his arm.
A jolt of electricity scorched up his arm. He gave a visible shudder, feeling as though his entire limb was on fire.
It was probably glowing red by now.
Bonnie didn't seem to notice his internal short-circuit. "It's fine. I don't need their apologies."
"Thank you," she added, looking down, suddenly feeling a bit awkward herself. "I didn't expect you to catch on so quickly. I was originally just going to use Odette's authority to scare them, but I can't believe you actually knew who the principal of Trinity Academy was."
Lawrence's face was still flushed as he explained, "Principal Sutton went to school with my mom. It was just a coincidence. It wouldn't have worked if they went anywhere else... But, do you really not want an apology? Letting them off the hook like that feels too easy."
Bonnie shook her head. "No need. It's a waste of my time."
Lawrence chuckled. He found Bonnie's pragmatic personality incredibly endearing. He was just about to ask why they had bullied her in middle school when a realization struck him like lightning.
He blinked stupidly. "Wait, how did you know I was my mom's son?"
